Got a Craig Netbook CLP 281 the other day with Android 2.2 installed. Actually, it replaced a previous Craig netbook that was defective which was also running Android 2.2. But it must be a different build because in the previous Android 2.2 I didn't have "Device Standby" in the "battery usage" listing. It just had Display (using about 15% of the battery) and WiFi (using about 12%) Ok, this new "feature" is using 76% of my battery life. And last night, when I used the netbook on a fully charged battery, I noticed how short a battery life it had compared to my previous Craig Netbook (same model) which got me to investigate. In Settings/About Device/Battery Use that's when I found this entry "Device Standby" describing itself as the amount of the battery that is used by cell radio. But I have a netbook, not a phone. Anyhow, it suggests to put the WiFi settings in "Airplane Mode" but that doesn't help but it actually went UP to 83% usage. I don't make phone calls on a Netbook so why is it looking for cell towers (as I'm understanding it). How do I disable this? I tried uninstalling "Dialer" but it's a pre installed app so you can't uninstall it. I googled the matter but all the suggestions were for people having this problem with phones, not Netbooks. When I followed a few of the ideas, the menus on my Netbook were different so options were not there like on the phone menus.
And I tried that thing using "Calculator" and entering some "secret code" !+!+ 4656+!+! (or something like that) but I got an "Error".
Does anyone have some information about this matter? Also, is there somewhere that I can upgrade a Netbook running Android to the next firmware update? (if it exists)
The build of this Android 2.2:
Generic English 2.2 Froyo Ver 1.5.3 201108190.062300
Be great if someone has an answer to this question. I see a lot of people with this problem Some say it began in November with an upgrade. I think my first Craig was a July build. Looks like this is an August build (if I'm understanding the version info correctly.)
Anyhow, thanks,
Angie
