Device won't connect to pc

I installed Kies and the drivers, restarted the computer and I've tried both USB ports. I can't find any other drivers via the Samsung website. I don't have another cable available right now, so I will try that later. Anyway, the PC doesn't see that I've plugged in my S and the phone doesn't ask me to choose how to play with the computer. It just charges. No options at all. I'm not sure what to do next. I'm running Windows 7 64bit on the PC and factory installed Gingerbread on the phone. Thanks for any help.
