I am almost 2 weeks in with using my Dex paired with my Note 8 as my main computer. Just as a disclaimer, I do have a PC stick running headless through Chrome Remote Desktop in case I run into a scenario where using windows is absolutely necessary.
I'm not going to jump to any conclusions and say that using DeX over a PC full time is for you, but it has been for me.
It's going to depend on what you use your computer for. My needs are simple... I need to work on my business website through a web browser, simple photo editing, word processing, etc.
My office is at home, so I have no need for multiple DeX stations at multiple locations.
As a power user, I find that I am on my phone, but really wasn't on my desktop PC. Samsung has done a very nice job at making their apps have a nice feel on the desktop environment. Even the Samsung internet app automatically pulls desktop versions of website when in DeX. The experience is very smooth.
There are not a ton of apps that are optimized for DeX, but it is growing... slowly. Many applications such as Facebook and Amazon, I don't feel like I need an optimized app for. I am on a desktop, so I prefer to open them in a browser anyway.
I did have an issue with the Microsoft apps. They would only recognize my student subscription on the phone, but would only let me be in read only mode on DeX. Because I have become increasingly annoyed with Microsoft over the years, I simply dropped them and went with the WPS Office app, which gives plenty of free features for my needs. WPS Office is optimized for full screen mode, but does feel a bit like a mobile app on the desktop. Narrowing the window helps it feel more natural.
Also, the Samsung Notes app feels great on the desktop for simple word processing.
The recent news of "Linux on Galaxy" was a pleasure to hear. It's nice to know that support for the DeX is still underway. I'm curious how Linux on Galaxy will work.
So to sum it up, if your desktop needs are simple, the DeX may be a full time desktop for you.
If anyone has any questions or is curious about how certain apps run, let me know.

Nice review, I think it will suit me as well for just private use.
How do you receive calls when the Note is Dex'd
Looking forward to recieve my free promotional one.

As of right now, I have a bluetooth speaker paired to the Note 8 and it operates in speaker phone when docked. It is not necessary to have a BT speaker though, as the sound can come from the dock.
Unfortunately, there is no headphone jack on the DeX, so I will probably buy a bluetooth headet for calls that I do not want on speaker phone.

My Queen ordered Dex for my man cave. She's truly glad that I'm out of the way, and her friends are there wine testing. I hate wine, but, I'll stop here. Lol

Didn't get the free offer for Dex, what are the circumstances involved in that free promotion. I thought it was either the SD card with wireless charger or 360 dg. Camera.

Oh well, can't wait..

It was a pre-order offer here in Ireland and UK, we didn't get the offer you guys got in the US for memory plus wireless charger or camera, I would probably have taken that as my dex will only be used as a wireless charger untill I can afford screen and keyboard

Yeah I'm looking forward to trying it out, I have a wireless mouse so I'll get a wireless keyboard at some point. I have a desktop gaming pc with 3 monitors (eyefinity) so I'll be using one of those through HDMI.
I probably set my phone up more personally than my pc so I think I might use Dex but still would have liked a choice of a memory card, 360 cam or charger.
