DeX - moving files from the phone to the Mac

If you still having the issue, so what worked for me, is going to the gallery app, click and hold a photo until its selected then dragging it to a folder within finder, without ever letting go. again click + hold then drag.

What I learned from someone else is a process that works. Click on hold on an item until the checkbox is shown and then release the mouse button. Now reclick and hold on the item and now it is possible to drag the item to the Mac desktop.

Not just a simple drag and drop.

I am struggling for some days now to move photos from my Note 10 plus to my Mac, and no older app seems to work anymore. In the past on my old note 8 I could use Smart Switch and Side Sinc on both note and on MacOS to move files from Note to Mac. Unfortunately now Side Sync cannot be installed on my Note10+ since this phone has Dex, and Smart Switch does not let me access any folders or files on my
phone, it only allows for making a backup or restore.

Please someone help me by telling me how can I transfer files through USB-C cable from my Galaxy Note 10 plus phone to MacOS 10.14.6 (other than saving photos to my sd card, poping the sd-card out and copying to MacOS then putting the card back (this is not an option).

I know a little.

had the Genius tech at The apple store to do it.
I forgot some too.

Hook the cord from Your Macbook to your Note 10+ " C Cord "

I may of bought the cord.

Had to buy several cords and adapters.
Cause the new macbook Pro don't have a USB-A slot, No DVD reader.
NO Sd card.

Plug the c cord from your mackbook Pro to your phone.

a menu will pop up
Click on Android file
File transfer

Click on DCIM
Copy camera to your desktop

take the picture and drag it from camera On your phone over to your photos on your mac.

If I have told you correctly, then you can highlight several photos and drag them from your camera over to your photo's on your mac.

Wish I could remember more.

Take your phone, macbook pro and Your cords.
Ask them how to do it.
Make notes on your phone IN notes and post it so I can remember.

They will have somebody to show you.

Got my new macbook pro . week ago.

My note 10+ is about a month old.

That is a way to copy files but... the context of this thread is copying files using Dex on PC.

Sorry dude.

I didn't read good.
Was trying to do it the way they was doing it at the apple store.
Know there are different ways.
Maybe I should try DeX. Since I'm having such a hard time.

Quick question: how do I move files from Dex to the (Mac) desktop? Can't seem to figure out how.

I can transfer stuff TO DeX by simple drag and drop. But the other way round?

Is your firewall set to allow incoming from DEX?

System Preferences/Security and Privacy/Firewall

DeX is more trouble than I want to get into with Catalina on my mac

Yeah, it doesn't work. I've tried all the solutions here, it doesn't work. SideSync was awful. Android File Transfer too. It's 2019 and smartphones are a modern miracle but still the quickest way to transfer a simple photo file the 2cm between my phone and my computer is using a 50yr old technology (email) via a server that's probably 10,000 miles away. Bluetooth and other near field coms have been around nearly 30yrs. BUT IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! It's insane and it really amazes me.

Not sure if you saw my post above so here it is:

Hi there, thanks for coming back. Yes I did see your suggestion before I wrote my comment. I tried your method but unfortunately it doesn't work on my Mac. The check box comes up but when I reclick, the item is not drag-and-droppable. Tried it like 25 times.
None of the potential solutions worked. I've seen a lot of 'it doesn't work' threads on this topic so I'm kind of giving up. I had precisely the same problem with SideSync and Android File Transfer. Obviously sending a file 2cm is technologically much harder than I realised. So strange when I can send a message to the other side of the planet in 1 second but can't send a photo from my phone to laptop when they are sitting next to each other.

Hi there, yeah, that's precisely what the previous guy suggested. "click to select, then click again to drag". It doesn't work.
'Drag to the right" is a new one, hadn't heard that before. I tried it, but it doesn't work. Thanks for the video though, I really appreciate it. Glad it's working for you. 3 or 4 hours across 3 or 4 days is the limit of my patience to try to make something work.

Damn that suck! One last tip: Try dragging from the file icon. Doesn't work for me when I drag by the file name or other areas of the row. Only the file icon.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions. I've tried clicking and dragging everywhere including the file icon and the file name. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Since your suggestion I also tried dragging to the right (then up, down and to the left). It doesn't work. Thanks again for trying to help, I really appreciate it.

I had the same issue for this, what i figured so far is that I can only do it if I transfer 1 file at a time but It doesn't work if I select multiple files :'(

I was struggling for a long time too.. but reached one step ahead at least.

So, you open Dex and go to My Files. Now, whichever files or folders you want, you select them and then click and hold for at least 4-5 seconds without moving the mouse, then the icon will change to Dex icon and hand icon, now you can drag it to your Mac Finder anywhere.

Now I am stuck with a new problem. It is allowing maximum 100 files at once. My picture folders have 1000 files and more. Can't find a way to back them up at once. Even a whole folder won't copy unless it has less than 1000 files!

But I hope the copying works for you now!
