I haven't used Dex but I use SideSync frequently. It occurs to me that SideSync may do all that Dex can do, as long as you have the CPU hardware.

What I know about Dex is that while you don't require a CPU you do require a monitor, mouse and keyboard, and the Dex hardware.

Under what circumstances would Dex be a valuable tool?

If you don't have a PC and don't want to spend the $

If you travel a lot for business, and don't want to cart around a laptop.

Re: Drex or SideSync?

Same, I use my Dex with remote desktop to access a central home server I use for all my home stuff. I can also remote into my work PC via vpn. Helps out a lot since I don't need my laptop with me at all times.

When traveling. I would bring an HDMI cable with me and hook it up to the hotel tv to work off my lte network. Phone stays pretty cool and allows me to do light word processing and respond to email. I can stream Netflix on it for entertainment purposes. I also use TeamViewer to remote into my home computer while away to access any critical stuff.

It has served me pretty well. I don't think its a necessity, but it all depends on your uses.

I was wondering about remoting in to my work PC via VPN. That's good to hear. Does it work well compared to a regular PC?
