is there a way to set up the phone so that the dial pad comes up every time... i think default is whatever you used last? maybe something that could be set up for tasker???

To my knowledge there is not a way to get the stock dialer to do that. However a third party one might, like DialerOne.

Just long press an empty part of the screen and make a widget for the dialer.

AND you can go into settings > phone and set how often the dial pad appears automatically on calls.

if you hit home when exiting the dialer, it will send you to last used. if you back out of it, it should default to dialer.

If you don't mind using a third party launcher, launcher pro has a customizeable dock. By default, one of the icons is set to the dialer.

Even with Launcher Pro, it still brings up the dialer app and once your in the dialer app, it goes back to the last window you were at.

Please dont quote me BUT I think this option was available before the Froyo 2.2 update. I think I remember seeing it awhile back.

It doesn't do that on mine. I long pressed the icon and selected dialer. It always opens the dialer O matter where I left off.
