Did 2.2 kill my phone?

Downloaded 2.2 last night on my non rooted phone (took a long time, but it worked). Before I went to bed I plugged in the phone and noticed no charge indicator. This morning I was at 63% battery. Decided to shut it off and remove the battery to see if it would reset and now its dead. If I long press the power button I get a dead battery icon and no wheel rotation.

Took the phone to the local V dealer and they swapped batteries, no good. Looks like there is something wrong with the USB/Battery/Software interface. My battery powered up a different phone, so there is something going on internally with the phone. No luck hooking the USB to a computer either. Looks like I will be getting a new phone tomorrow.

What a PITA. I am really starting to hate this phone, first no 2.2, now a brick.

i've heard enough today that even though i'm having zero problems.. i am not going to update my girls phone right away.. dont want to deal with a dead phone needing replacement.

so sorry to hear...

my husband and I updated our fascinate's last night the second we saw the update become available and everything on our phones are working great!

I am so surprised and I'm sorry to hear a fellow vzw and androidian is having issues. thank goodness for big red's customer service and you are getting a new one.

are they going to give you a new fascinate with 2.2 already installed so that you won't have that issue again?

Try removing the battery, then, plugging it into the PC and pushing the power button and the DOWN button on the volume. See if it will enter download mode (big yellow logo with droid shoveling). If it does, you can bring it back from the dead with a small amount of work, but you can save it at least.

Check that and let us know.

@ MrsBS27 - I hope it will come with 2.2 installed, but I would be happy with a phone that worked for now.

@ curley - Tried your suggestions, no luck. I just get the dead battery icon. I don't think the phone recognizes the battery or the USB being plugged in. Very strange.

Shark, please remove the battery from the phone, with the battery still out plug the phone into the computer and press and hold the volume down button for about 10 second, please tell me if a big yellow triangle pops up

Tried again, nothing. Just shows dead battery icon even when there is no battery in the phone.

if you saw a dead battery icon you did not follow my directions,,,the batter needs to be out of the phone when you do what i asked you to do

Yes, you need to pull the battery. This process will not work with the battery in. Then Plug it in to the computer (with no battery), hit the power and volume down.

The battery is out of the phone. The back is off, the battery is out, USB connected, holding the power and down vol ... nothing. It displays a dead battery with the clock wheel that does not rotate.

I get the same result, doesn't matter if the battery is in or out, USB connected or not, all I get is the dead battery icon with a non rotating clock wheel.

Have to run, my son has a jazz concert in 20 min. I will try when I get back, thanks.

HOLY CRAP! Never seen that. I wonder if the battery terminals are stuck or bent. That just does not make any sense.

You're not doing it right. You are not supposed to hold the power and vol down button, only the volume down button. With battery out hold the volume down button AND THEN insert the usb cable. You should then see that you're in download mode.

good catch but even then you shouldnt see a battery icon, but i would say try again with JUST the volume down button

you can do it either/or battery out hold down the volume key and plug in while still holding or battery out , plug in and hold down the volume button , both methods work

Ok, just got back and tried a number of the above suggestions.

Got it to work with no battery, USB in, holding volume down, then just for the hell of it I touched the power button and I got the shoveling droid with "Downloading..." under it.

Now what?

Is there any advantage doing this other than just educating myself since I will be getting a new phone tomorrow? Looks like I will loose everthing on the phone other than the SD card stuff.

My original plans were to wait for 2.2, learn how to root, then debloat. Maybe I should give this a try on a phone that is going back since I have nothing to loose?
