Did Froyo Ruin the DINC? Is DINC Worth Getting?

Froyo is way better than Eclair. Does the OP know what Froyo really is?
Have been happy with my DInc since release day and more happy with it since Froyo and even more happy with Root and no Bloat.

Great advice on DInc vs DX.

Being that I only had Eclair for next to five minutes when I first got my DInc back in September (OTAs were rolling out.), I cannot vouch for the 'ruining' of the phone with Froyo. However, that said, IMO Froyo runs fine. I can vouch for that as I've been running stock up until recently where I rooted my phone.

Honestly it is a matter of personal preference really. If the phone does what you want and you're happy with it, go for it.

Yes I know what froyo is. I was just reading some negative things in the froyo roll out thread and was a little concerned.

Did Froyo screw up the DINC?

Froyo made the phone better. I have better battery life, better performance and just all around more fun with my phone.

Mind you, my phone is on 24/7, all my calls and social stuff go through it, I have eight email accounts setup (including Exchange and all my work stuff) and several different databases of stuff that dabble in with one or two games and some shopping things.

I DO NOT load it with junk and I do not sit and whine about problems I caused because I wasn't being smart. Oh and the last time my phone locked up or had to be force restarted ... before Froyo.

How others report so many problems - beyond me. My old battery will last most of the day and the extended battery I got here lasts two days. Prior to this, I would be lucky to get through the day with the regular battery and the extended was ready to be charged by bedtime though it might last till morning.

Did Froyo Ruin DInc

In these lines and I hope you all don't mind me asking this in this thread since it is in the same lines but I have not Rooted my phone and it is totally stock.

how many of you who have answered in here to the OP about his question on Froyo actually Rooted your phone andwhat was your decision in doing so? Also what methodwas used as you all feeling was the best and easiest to do? Was it done by you using a Tutorial or did you have someone do it for you?

Thank you all who care to answer my questions to help me make up my mind. I would like to be able to delete apps I dont was as well as have a good backup to do weekly as I use to do with my BB Tour and the desktop manager.;)

Honestly, Froyo didn't really ruin anything. I too went from a BB to a Dinc, and I ran 2.1 and 2.2, and the difference is performance is like night and day. Froyo makes a great device even better.

The only gripe I have is the most recent update which disabled my data connection, but verizon replaced my device for free, so no worries.

But even if you are not completely sold on the OS, like I was at first, just look at the hardware. That's what honestly sold me. As good as BB's are, just looking at the hardware alone should be enough to make a decision. This thing is fast, powerful, and stock or rooted, it's an amazing device either way. Definitly one of the top devices at verizon right now. Have fun :)

@jaguarr, i rooted my dinc once to see what all the fuss was about. I look around and found a couple how-to's, and it was pretty easy, especially if you use unrevoked. I mean, it's fun to do if you really like messing around with the inner parts of your device, just be careful. After I rooted, I did the recent update that vzw pushed out, and it shut off my data connection, so I had to unroot it to send it back. That was the hardest part.

So if you want to make your phone do a whole bunch of stuff such as tether fo free, mess with your cpu power, or try new roms, then root's the way to go. But I currently am happy with stock, and if you look hard enough, a lot of these things you can do un-rooted.

There is better options. Dx for example, and forget about sense, blur and all that bull****. Better processor, better battery life, bigger screen, more features, better build quality. Those that say the inc is better its probably because they are stuck with a child's toy

I would hold out

The Dinc is a sweet phone, But the Dinc HD is coming soon. Nothing sucks more then buying a phone and a newer better version comes out a week later.

Wow, I don't think RIM saw this coming. I also came from a long line of BB's, including the total disappointment Storm 1, and ending with a Tour. The DInc was the first device to really catch my eye and pull hard. It took me almost a month to make the decision to switch to this absolutely gorgeous device. It is the perfect size and packs a punch 10 times that of any BB I have owned, and dependable to boot. No battery pulls everyday, no wondering if my bluetooth is going to connect this time or ever for that matter. This phone, if it should even be considered such, is a machine of telephonic ability and a friend of which I shall never abandon. So yes friend, the DInc is an excellent choice and a life changer..... Trust us all and take the leap...

WOW, I really need some sleep.....

I've had the DInc since June and absolutely love it!! Froyo made everything run alot smoother than Eclair, although I wasn't a fan of the small update VZW sent out bout two weeks ago. Everything does great on it and if you're a business person, I would suggest getting Touchdown in the Market if you use Exchange for email. The X is a good phone and I prefer the size actually more than the DInc's size but I don't like the skin Motorola put on it nor do I feel like the processor is a snappy, no pun intended, than the Snapdragon on the DInc. Only phone I'll change from the DInc for in the near future is the Incredible HD that is suppose to come out in the next few months (think Evo 4G). My suggestion, get the DInc..you won't be disappointed!

The Droid X has MotoBlur...

My Rooting Question

First of all thank you and Paradox for answering my questions about rooting.
I am more and more convincing myself that I am going to leave well enough alone and enjoy this unbeleivable device and compared to my BB Tour and no memory leaks or daily battery pulls I can now actually enjoy a phone and the preloaded apps and apps I choose to download.

I am not real comfortable with messing with the inner workings and then have the trouble you did Matthew I think I will pass as I said.

Any further advice as an Android Newbie but pretty smart and a fast learner so any pointers you want to throw my way or must have apps to look at please feel free to pass them along to me whether here of if you wish to PM me any advice on what I can or should do or add to my app collection would be grateful on my part so PM away if you have the time.

Thank you again forr your time.

I have been devving froyo roms for the incredible since August. Froyo has been rock solid on the incredible since it came out, and the devs here only make it even better!

ANd the inc is still vzw's best phone.

i wouldnt get anything motorola.

build quality issues (my cousin went through 4 Xs), a locked bootloader (sucks lol no kernels for you!), and BLUR....

htc is the way to go...

Best comment ever....... LOL!

I would get a Droid Incredible or Droid 2, the Incredible is just... I dunno, I do not trust HTC quality, I trust Motorola a whole lot more than HTC.

Yeah custom roms are nothing but problems. I went through like 50 of them with my d1. Build quality? That's the first I have heard of 4 dx's since july. Get real, dude blur sucks I will give you that. so does sense. throw launcher pro on there and its a 3 dollar solution to both problems. And as for processing power, you had better check quadrant advanced. Anyone that can't see quality has an htc phone. Dx is some what future proof also, inc is getting old
