Please offer opinions.

I bought a mhl Hdmi adapter (supposed to be samsung, but generic came)

Plugged it in and it didn't work

Found out that Samsung changed pin alignment and required new proprietary plug.

So my question: did I damage my port on the bottom of my phone? Still charges. How could I tell if it's damaged?

Thanks

I doubt I did any damage, as charging works and I can successfully connect it to the computer

You did not damage it. The plugs are identical except for the fact that the new one has more pins, 11 for the first new one. I am not sure what the count was on the old, 6 maybe. All you did was insert a cable that didn't have enough pins to touch their counterparts inside the phone. Everything else is the same

Get Skiva MHL Micro USB to HDMI cable for Note 2, it on Amazon and I used it. It work flawlessly.

For that cable, make sure you put the usb all the way in. Don't worry about port, you won't damage it. You have to push it all the way in for it to work.
