I bought a used Optimus V off a kid off of Craigslist. Was almost brand new in the box. He had just activated it,so he asked me if I wanted him to deactivate the account,or I could use up the month of service left on it. So that is what I decided to do,heck it was a free month.

Well, now the month is up & I tried to activate it under my name, and the said because I do not have the pin #,or account info there is nothing I can do. Here is the biggest problem. He listed the Craigslist ad with the Optimus phone #,so I have no way of contacting him. I know he didn't do it on purpose....anything I can do with this phone now,or am I screwed???

Thanks for the help

Call Virgin Mobile and explain the situation to them. I'm not sure if they can help, but if anyone can, it's them.

Just tell them you just now bought the phone, don't mention that you've been using the other person's time.

You're screwed without that pin or the answer to the security questions. Might have to wait until they remove his account, one to two months?

you basically bought someone elses plan...

that kid had to go into the store and put his own name and make his own pin number.

a free month is NOT a free month if its someone elses.

go into radioshack, tell them you bought a used optimus V, and you want a NEW plan (with YOUR NAME and YOUR OWN pin number) and they will flash the new information onto your phone

from that moment on it will be YOUR phone with YOUR info.

its like if I sold you a car and you kept it registered to me and drove it around until the tags expired.

and yes, youll get a new number when you make the new plan, thats how it works, thats what would happen if you bought it at the store anyways.

go get it over with and enjoy YOUR new phone

Hope i dont sound rude, not trying to be. but seriously i think it should be common knowledge that when you buy a smartphone, you erase all previous user info, like their account, and phone number, and things like that. and get it activated AGAIN with all your own info.

you could actually have done it over the phone, you still can, by calling virgin support, but to me it sounds like youd be better helped if you went into a radioshack and let a sales associate take care of most of the work for you. youll walk out with a working phone and not have to worry about anything else.

I have had other prepaid phones where you just bought minutes and didn't have an account. You just charge it up with a prepaid card. So I didn't really think about it.

Thanks for the tips guys...The one girl at Virgin told me I was S.O.L. I'll hit up Radio Shack and try.

You are pretty screwed virgin customer rep are not going to let you switch to your account that easy. You have to plead with them and keep calling them.. you will have better luck calling Headquarter support... Level 1 rep support will just keep you ruining in circles haha. ..or hope to get a nice rep associate that is going to bend the rules for you. .they have the power to delete the account and add a new one but the reps are really under pressure not to do it.

You can't activate a phone that is already tied to a line..

You can either just keep paying it or wait until the account expires, about 2 to 3 months

I have sold my old virgin mobile phones to people before and they had simular problems but they were able to clear it up by talking with virgin mobile support sounds like the person you got on the phone was just being insubordinate about the situation.

Radio Shack called Virgin to try to re-register it to me today. No go...As "OverthinkingMe" mentioned, they said I have to wait 2-3 months on an expired account before they will assign a new account to it. I just bought a $25 top off card, and rolled with it.

Call CS, say you got it as a present and you don't have the pin. It's all about smooth talking them.

Don't say anything about getting it as a gift or that it's even a used phone you bought.
Just tell them you don't have your pin and you cant remember witch email you used for you're account on VM site when you registered the phone 3 months ago.

The will ask for the cells number and other info about the phone.
They will them reset the phone to a new password and email you give them.

It worked for me on my 3rd used V that I bought from another person online and it was still activated.
