Did Messages+ Just Get an Upgrade? (Verizon)

I've been using Messages (white envy/yellow note) instead of Verizon's Messages+ (red background w/ talk bubbles). But yesterday either I accidentally engaged it or it upgrade and asked if I'd like to make it my default message program (texting). I like it! It's very customizable and I like how the text popped up on the screen on top of what I was doing. But I'm 100% crazy confused about anything else. Here is a screenshot of Messages (not the + program). See how you can add frequent contacts at the top and SEE them? I'm pretty sure you can do that with the Messages+ too but I can't find how. Does anyone else have problems navigating this app? I'm letting itstress me way more than it should! Is not a very intuitive app? Or is is me?
