Did the latest OTA kill the Rezound?

Hi - I'm still using the original DINC, love the phone. Was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Rezound, especially with the new Mugen slim extended battery coming out soon.

Then BOOM.....the dreaded OTA. I remember when they first rolled out Froyo on the DINC, the phone was &*^% for 2-3 months until they finally came out with a fix. And neither Verizon or HTC would even admit there was a problem, so you didn't know a fix was coming until it showed up on your phone. Very frustrating.

Sounds like they did the same with the Rezound. Take a perfectly good phone and turn it to crap in an instant. And they don't even give you a choice whether to take the update. Unbelievable.

Is it still worth pulling the trigger on this phone? It sounds like there is a way to stop the "Verizon Location Agent" by downloading an update from the market but will that always work? It also sounds like the OTA messed up other things as well. Why oh why does Verizon keep pulling this crap? Have they never heard of "quality control"?

Yeah the OTA seems like a nightmare. If you can get unlocked, rooted and a custom ICS ROM installed and avoid the OTA, then I would definitely get a Rezound.

I am probably in the minority, but I haven't had any issues after the ota, and the ota reduced the audio problem.

I got the update installed the night after I got the phone (Friday). I haven't noticed any issues since then personally.

Interesting. I wonder why some people had no issues and others are reporting battery drain, overheating, bluetooth issues, etc.

Thanks. I never rooted before. Not sure if I want to go through the hassle.

Have had the RZ for 2 weeks now and had no trouble with the OTA. In fact, it appears I am getting better battery life, but that may be the way I am using it.
Still have my Dinc, but I really love this phone.

My ota worked like a dream. No issues.

No issues here either with the OTA. Can't wait for ICS... (will end up rooting, I'm sure)

I am not having very good battery performance since the update. I normally can make it through the day on one extended battery with room to spare. I updated this morning and have burnt through my extended battery and am half way through the standard battery. It's only 7:00.

Had no issues with ota. Installed fine, no hiccups. Battery life about the same, but I use my phone A LOT. Spent an hour online looking for a non existant bearing for a customer car today. 5 gig a month use is average or low. Thank goodness I'm grandfathered in.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like a mixed bag, some people having issues & some not. I think I'll hold off and see if Verizon comes out with an OTA to fix the last OTA....;)

Or maybe they will be rolling out ICS soon.

I was debating all month whether to upgrade early or not. Glad I didn't. My upgrade is on the 28th, so I'll just wait it out and hopefully the OTA kinks get worked out by then. I just hope once it is cleared up, the end results turn out to be better battery life, improved speaker/voice clarity, and some nice little feature upgrades as opposed to battery drain, jacked apps, and a phone that doesn't make anyone jealous.

FWIW, my DInc worked great when I got the Froyo update. I had a mini-issue with FB not updating properly, but a battery pull and log-off/log-in worked there. But, I do remember others basically having a bricked phone. I'm sure HTC tests the updates 60x over, but there's just so many little differences between phones (which apps are installed, what's been changed, how much space is on the phone, etc) that its impossible to cover EVERY phone scenario. I'd say that 'jacked phones' are probably 20% or less with an OTA update.

My upgrade was on 1/3, I was just waiting to see if and when an extended slim battery would come out for the Rezound before I pulled the trigger. Then as soon as the battery came out, the OTA hit.

Funny how OTA's have a different effect on the same model of phone. I was humming along with the DINC on 2.1, I was getting like 2 days between charges. When I first got Froyo (Sept) it killed my battery life, I was lucky to get 6 hours. And the phone would take forever to charge. Like 8 hours to charge from 40% to full. And it would get really hot. Then in November I got an OTA, after that it was fine again.

Then when Gingerbread came out, I refused the first update, didn't want to brick the phone again. Lucky because that first rollout had issues. Then a few weeks later I got another OTA for Gingerbread and installed that one and it was fine.

I probably will end up going with the Rezound eventually, I'm in no hurry though. I read the Edge might be announced at the end of the month, first HTC quad core phone. Might be worth waiting for that one.

I was worried that the ota might ruin an almost perfect stock experience. Thankfully it didn't and battery life seems better, too.

FYI, you're talking about 6 months from date of announcement before it touches down on a Big Red shelf, at minimum.

No issues with my OTA update. The phone has been rock solid.

I came from the DINC as well. Had zero problems before the OTA update and zero problems after the update.

Rezound is a great phone and HUGE upgrade from the DINC - significantly faster (and I ran overclocked ROM's on the DINC), bigger screen is great and the 720p is a massive improvement in screen quality. 4G's not bad either. My battery life with the stock battery is probably better than my 1750 battery on the DINC, and i'm running 4G all day...

Pull the trigger - you won't regret it!
