Would be interested in thoughts and opinions if you have done this.

Well, there's Lollipop and there's Nexus 9 hardware. I use my tablets mostly for reading, either ebooks, web articles or PDFs. Some youtubing, but noit as much as other users.

hardware:
  • The 9 is significantly larger. I'm finding I can hold it single-handed, but not sure any hand can.
  • The feel and look are very nice. Reviewers have mentioned a weak backing. Mine does have some give, but is it my imagination? I might not have noticed at all if it hadn't been for those reviews.
  • The screen is nice, balanced color and bright. I have light bleed in an upper corner. I would call it minor, visible only against black background display and I'm in a darker environment. But i also must admit I haven't had a tablet lightbleed in years
  • Mine has been an excellent tablet and I've recommended it to friends

I have the 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 and now the Nexus 9. The 9 is harder to use while I am lying in bed but it is better then the 7 in every respect as far as the hardware goes; except perhaps storage and battery but I am fine with both. My 9 has no light bleed even with a black terminal screen and brightness turned all the way up. I prefer to use the 9 for everything unless I am lying in bed. Since Lollipop is still new you may find some apps will not work; ie. MX Player. Viewing pictures and videos is great on the 9 and the bigger screen is much better for web pages too.

I did, too. I liked the 2012 N7 much better than the 2013. I'm really liking the N9. I read a lot and love the bigger screen size, especially for magazines. Videos are really nice, too. It's much faster than the N7 was, too. I don't have light bleed and don't see the issues others have reported. I'm very happy I made the switch.

I also had the N7 2012 & 2013. I just found a good home for my 2013. I do like the N9 better than both of the previous tablets. The things that stick out the most are screen size (not too big and not too small ymmv), the 4/3 aspect ratio (it is so much better for reading) and the speakers (I actually had to turn them down because I thought I would bug my neighbors lol).

I have both. I like the bigger screen of the 9. It is easier on my eyes especially for reading books.

Have you decided to keep it or or exchanged it for another unit?

Definitely sending it back because of light bleed. I already filled out return . P Amazon gave me until end of Jan. I am not sure if I will get another. Might wait and see if quality improves.
