Didn't See This Posted - Android 2.2 Coming Soon for the EVO

If there's one thing I've learned from being a techie-nerd its to take "soon" with a giant heap of salt. As others have said, Sprint isn't the issue- they're remarkably fast about pushing updates (See Pre vs. VZW Pre Plus releases)- it's HTC. I would love for HTC to release a non-sense'd version immediately, then the Sense-coated 2.2 whenever, but I won't hold my breath.

Yup sprint did pretty good wit the pre so I wouldn't worry about Sprint

After the pure aggravation I dealt with in regards to the 2.1 update for the Hero I have almost no faith in any way shape or form in HTC or Sprint getting this out before the summer. I really hope I'm wrong but I fear I'm not.

The delay is two-fold. First HTC has to get it all coded right to work with Sense. Once they feel that is accomplished they pass it off to Sprint. Then Sprint does its own round of QA. Pretty sure making sure it works with all of the Sprint extras(crap). Then they push it out to us. I think this announcement means that HTC has done their part and now Sprint is doing theirs.

As someone else said, it's dependent on HTC to integrate Sense and thoroughly test it. You wouldn't want an update that's full of bugs just to get it a few weeks earlier, would you?

HTC's probably been working with pre-release versions of Froyo, but since the final software wasn't release until a couple of days ago, I doubt seriously they've finished their testing. Testing an OS is not a trivial task. They need to make sure EVERY feature still works. That's not something that's done in a day.

Lol... Yeah I was pissed at how long it took them as well.
And on top of that, it was kinda' laggy.

But Palm did come out with 3d games... which I thought was crazy good for them.

I think we are only a couple of weeks away from the update. First off the message came from Sprint which mean they were already given the final release by HTC to add their bloatware. I think within the next two week we will see this roll out. Just my opinion.

I actually was impressed with Sprints roll-outs of updates (back when I used to be impressed with the Pre, but that's another post) so I'm not too worried.

Personally, I'm willing to wait several months as a 'soon' from Sprint. At least they threw EVO users a bone - something we never got (and not Sprint's fault) re: a HPalm 'Pre 2', thus making my glorious switch to EVO so much, much easier.

We'll see, but I'm content. Probably still basking in the glow of happiness I'm in from my switch from Pre to EVO (a switch I was terrified to make as a Palm user for over 8 years).

We've been told our EVOs are getting 2.2. Others have been told they are NOT.

Good enough for me. Maybe not for others and I understand. But certainly good enough for me.
