I heard there are two ways to get free wifi tether.I don't know which one is safe or if that even matters.I know people here are more experienced than myself so this is why I ask for help.

I used this method here to get my wifi tethering using adb.

These links are the ones that I found which talk about different ways to get wifi tethering to back up my question.

how do you get that first one to work. My computer refuses to connect to my Atrix when I do the first method.

I rooted my phone, modified the APN to bypass the check, but 2.3.4 broke that. There is now a hack where you edit a moto pref file and change a database entry. Once changed and the phone rebooted the check is removed completely and you can use the native WiFi and USB tethering as they were meant to be used.

care to post the link or something to this.... my issues is i'm using an at&t atrix on rogers and cannot use the stock wifi hotspot ... this will do it....,

yea was able to tether also however I dont really have to at home but its nice to know I can do it tho...

I used the db editor method. I still get a pop up warning about my account has be authorized. I'm able to ignore it and continue. I guess that means it works and it won't be known that I'm tethering?

depends on your carrier... for me tethering is included in my data plan so i dont need to worry about that on rogers... tho other carriers may care and trust me they can tell...

AT&T will start placing people who do unauthorized tethering on a plan. If you are in the group, you will get email and a letter about it.

Try "barnacle" (Google it!) ... all you need is root and the app. Best method I have found.... much better than the stock app.

Enjoy! :-)
