I am trying to root my and my GF's phone. We both have the Samsung S5 SM-G900A with Lollipop version 5.0 and Kernel version 3.4.0-4432708 Mar16, 2015. I have been trying to do this for several hours today and am getting quite frustrated.... so far I tried the easier Towelroot with no luck (even changing the numbers).

I also tried Odin and I keep getting a fail (Auth). Here are the steps I have followed.

-USB Debugging on, USB Driver updated from Kies 3 - phone in download mode.
-Launch Odin3 v3.10.6 downloaded from odin3.en.lo4d US version
-Blue Light indicated successful communication.
-Check mark AP and attached openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-klte. tar and I have tried 2.8.5.0
-I downloaded my recovery files from techerrata /browse/twrp2/klte
-Click Start and Odin begins then says FAIL. here is the log:

Any ideas? Am I using the wrong Odin version? Or am I downloading the wrong recovery file (ie for G900F not G900A)? Is my phone too up-to-date to be rooted?

Any help is appreciated, been tearing my hear out. Keep in mind I am obviously not the most technically savvy person in the world.

Thanks!

Unless something has changed, you can't root the AT&T S5 on Lollipop. You could keep root on KitKat and update. I would suggest looking here first, I just did a quick skim though. From the little I have heard and haven't dug deep, because I went to the Note 4, if you already had root with KitKat, they were able to keep root and update to Lollipop, but if you unrooted and upgraded, once you had Lollipop, you couldn't root.

Could I some how downgrade back to kitkat and then root? Or can you only downgrade devices that can be or have been rooted?

I do not care for Lollipop.... my phone somehow magically updated itself and I am kinda mad about it.

That is above my pay grade of knowledge. Things are different for different variants. AT&T and Verizon were the worst in their update, they have locked it up tight. You are going to have to search at xda and may e ask some questions.

If you can downgrade, you have to make sure you can also root after.

If you can't root, won't help, AT&T will force the update eventually, unless you are OK with never using WiFi again.
