When they talked about the Essential Phone in May they said the phone would have a all new digital assistant on board however I've noticed this wasn't mentioned in any of the new reviews. Has anyone read if this is still going to be a thing?

That was for their home device with a new OS called ambient OS, not for phone. Probably it'll eventually come to phones but they didn't talk about it on phone and not going to happen anytime soon.

I guess I may have misunderstood, but several articles on May 32st talked about it in regards to it being on the phone.

I must have dream that the phone would have something that would know when your driving or some how be less of a distraction while someone is driving. I drive a Toyota tundra and so I sit higher then most cars. I am.disturbed by how many drivers are on their phones while driving. something has to be done that can curb that behavior, too many people getting hurt and in accidents.

Yeah it’s ridiculous!! People are so freaking addicted to their phones that they’re risking their own lives and the lives of others just cause they can’t wait to see that stupid next Snapchat or whatever. It pisses me off.

I have spent a lot of time on the roads in and around new York city this last week and I would say third of all drivers text and drive. It's frightening. And yes, something really needs to be done to put a stop to it. It's far worse than drunk driving at this point.

This hits close to home....My parents were involved in a head on collision as a young lady was texting and driving while coming in the opposite direction drifted into their lane. Luckily it did not cause any fatalities and my parents are doing fine now. The young lady got out of her car on the phone with her mom yelling she was just in an accident while she was sending her a text.

I see far too many drivers with phones in their faces when driving. People need better self-control. Nothing on a phone is more important than properly guiding a 2500+ lb vehicle. Young drivers aren't taught how serious this is, which means it's still not taken seriously later in life.

My phone sits in the center console until I get to my destination. I ignore calls, emails and texts. My day is already filled with time online. Driving is one place where I can escape the noise.

Back on the assistant topic, it's certainly possible that Essential has either a mobile assistant or an entirely new OS in the works. I stumbled on this post this morning while searching for something else:

I see people using there phone while driving nonstop. I drive 5800 miles a week and have seen countless accidents happen while people drive and use their phones.

Well to get it back on subject yet again, I read a few more reviews from around the 31st all saying it was going to ship with it's own assistant on board but I haven't seen any recently. He's a link to one for instance. https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/30/15716892/the-essential-phone-will-have-its-own-smart-assistant

Indeed Essential originally had announced it was going to have its own type of smart "assistant" software that tied everything together and would be a key feature of the phone — but more so that was a feature of the upcoming Essential Home device. That software of course never made it to the shipping version of the Essential Phone, as the company has made no mention of it since then. It's just shipping with Google Assistant like every other phone out there today. Could it be added later? Sure, but the company isn't giving any details or timelines anymore — it just says it's still the plan on some level.

But fwiw there was no "review" of the Essential Phone before the second week of august. Until the first week of August nobody outside of Essential had even seen a working phone ... everything before that was theoretical.
