My DINC's been working fine for a year now - until yesterday. Had a major crash/malfunction that totally messed up my phone.

Yesterday I got a Market update notification in my top status bar,so I clicked it as usual and it had a bunch of apps that had updates. I clicked 'update all' and that's when the problem started - the app screen said 'downloading' for all of them but the download status bar just didn't show any green moving on any of them. This went on for hours and I couldn't shut it off (my CPU was maxxing out to a 1ghz and killing my battery, and slowing the phone down). Even shutting the phone down, when I turned it on it automatically started trying to update the apps and just hanging. Then it started automatically rebooting after like 3-5 minutes, and did this at least half a dozen times.

So I turned it off overnight, and this morning I turned it on to get multiple force close error pop ups for tons of my apps, and most wouldn't even open at all now. The few programs that would open were rebooted like I just installed it - settings gone, etc. And the Market was the OLD market page (last version).

I had a backup and restore program on the phone, but that did nothing to restore my apps and settings.

I've had to manually uninstall and reinstall most of my apps, keyboards, etc to get them to work again.

Biggest issues is my Touchdown exchange email program rebooted and won't let me reset it up,and my COL reminder program won't start and I use that more than my Outlook calendar, so if i uninstall and reinstall that one, everything will be lost...

Did i get a virus or something on my phone? Is my phone becoming defective or something? Any idea what the heck happened????

I would just do a factory reset and reinstall all your apps.

Make sure to back up your data you want to keep. Not quite sure why your getting the old market place though.

I clicked on all of my apps one by one to see which worked and which gave me a force close pop up. It looks like every app that wasn't moved to my sd card got knocked out and I had to reinstall.

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling at least 50 apps, but everything seems to be working normally now. Only weird thing is that the Market is still the old version of the Market...

Hopefully it was just some weird glitch when the market was trying to update more apps than I usually see at once (it was trying to do like 12 or so at the same time)...

This happened to me once. Did you take the battery out while the phone was still powering down?

No, i've never done that.

It's almost like it did a partial hard reset, except some programs still worked and all showed up in the app screen. Even my Playlists on MixZing and ProAmp were gone! Been a real pain trying to restore everything, and my Market continues to stay on the old version which is bizarre...

So I did a factory reset and wiped EVERY THING out. When every thing was done, and I went to the market place I found that I had the old version. Went off to configure other stuff....

About 3 minutes later I went back to the marketplace and it was updated to the newest version. I did nothing to get it to update and I just wanted to confirm that it does indeed update by it's self.

I'm hoping to avoid doing a factory reset, especially after all the hours I just spend uninstalling and reinstalling apps, updating my settings, and redoing my playlists.

Market is the only thing that isn't fixed now. I wonder if there's an .apk file somewhere that I can update it...

You shouldn't have to do a reset. Just restore your apps if you use a backup program or reinstall them one by one. If the app is saved to the sd card you shouldn't lose any game progress, app data, etc.
