Disable 4G

Try downloading the "advanced signal status" app from the play store and that app should give you the ability to toggle 4g/3g. Worked on my old galaxy nexus.

why would you want to? I'm sure you have a legitimate reason, just curious.

Probably battery consumption, data usage is a lot higher on 4g as well

Most folks that want this feature are ones who are in spotty 4G coverage areas. They keep dropping out of 4G and the phone continues to use cycles and battery to establish and hold the 4G connection. In areas such as this, forcing 3G is the answer, as it will save battery and provide a more stable connection.

So is battery usage better on 3G than on 4G?

Battery usage is why I want to turn off 4G. Don't need that for sending emails lol. 3G works just fine.

I'm not sure about the turbo, but I set the droid Maxx to 3G only for a few days last year and there was absolutely no difference in battery usage.

Did I miss it here? Did someone mention the easiest way to switch from 4g to 3g? Also, I'm guessing no simultaneous voice/data on 3g.

I agree. I tend to believe there's no noticeable difference provided you can maintain a constant & stable 4G signal.

Same initial thought from my Maxx. But I have a very reliable 4g signal in Phoenix

Probably the best option is lte on/off for thunderbolt, which works on the Maxx. You have to turn off lte after each phone restart, if the turbo is like the Maxx.

Start the app, and the opening dialog box tells you what to do.

Definitely no simultaneous voice and data on 3G - there cannot be, by definition.

It's not that battery usage is better on 3G. But if you are in a spotty 4G area and your phone is constantly searching for signal that will eat up the battery. So if you are in a spotty 4G area that has a solid 3G signal you are better off switching to 3G so your phone can hold the signal better and not constantly searching.
