Disable automatic shortcut creation?

Gotta believe this is an easy setting but I can't find it. Is there a way to stop the phone from automatically placing a shortcut on the desktop each time an app is installed?

I just bought the Galaxy Note 10.1 and as it downloaded all the apps that I have through the Google Play Store, it placed them all on my homescreens too. I was staring at them as they appeared like it was a horror movie. I was so annoyed that I had to delete every last one so that I could free up my dang screens. That has to be the stupidest setting on the planet. The best thing about Android, is the app tray. So it doesn't look stupid like the homescreens on iDevices.

I think it's on by default for the lowest common denominator user of Android phones--the type of person who thinks it should work like an iPhone and have every single downloaded app show up on the homescreen.

Right, but to have it enabled out of the box is odd. I love that the option is there, but there's so many cooler settings that come disabled stock. That should join those ranks.

I personally keep it enabled because I use Nova Launcher Prime so without that setting they'd get "lost" since they don't show up in the custom App Drawer.
I'd need to long-press, then tap "Apps", then scroll to it & then finally tap it to add to my Home screen. So 4 gestures compared to just 2; long-pressing the icon that's automatically generated & flicking it away. Yeah, I rather it be enabled for my personal use.

Out of curiosity, what "cool" settings are disabled stock?
