Is there any way to disable the pin lock that's enforced by exchange? I don't mind setting it for pattern lock

There *might* be a way, but it would require a few hacked APK's to make it work.

As someone who does exchange/security admin though, I'd heartily recommend against even attempting it. Your IT department will get *very* upset with you if you circumvent security measures. In at least some organizations circumventing security is a "your fired" worthy offense.

It is annoying that pattern lock doesn't work with exchange, trust me, I desperately wish I could use pattern lock instead of PIN on my work phone) but that just has to do with how pattern lock works. Exchange needs actual numbers for the locking mechanism, and pattern lock doesn't work that way, and I don't think it will any time in the near future.

Thanks is there any way for it to try the pin automatically after I enter e.g 4 digits? Like it does on the iPhone

No, that's another bit with android where on the iPhone the default pin is only 4 digits, so it just knows how long it is. on Android it can be a virtually unlimited length, so pressing "enter" is required. another layer of security. Someone who grabs your phone would have to not only guess the pin, but guess how long the pin is. Makes it nearly impossible to guess.

Ok one last thing. It's it possible to enable the notification centre pull down from the lock screen so I can at least check what came through?

Thanks but it doesn't work. It won't let me go to the next lock screen nor add widgets on the current screen.

There is a way. I have your same problem whereby my lock screen is only a lock screen. You have no benefits what so ever of the lockscreen features due to exchange policy.

The hack allows you to use face UNLOCK or number unlock. I have set it on face unlock and work instantly for me. IT ALSO allows you to have the SWIPE left and access the camera and also access most of the widget features on the lock screen.

Google EXCHANGENOPIN and you will find the thread. You need the particular APK for your version 4.2.2 and need to delete the original mail APK's. the thread will show you how BUT you must have a rooted device.

Hope that helps.

Be warned that that is exactly what I was talking about with regards to your IT department not wanting you to do that. It sucks, but it isn't worth getting in trouble from your employer over.

UNFORTUNATELY YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE SECURITY FEATURE but you can choose the PIN OR FaceUnlock. as face unlock works perfect for me, i choose that.It also allows Camera functionality. AS for getting fired, in my field unlikely, But we do have one of the strictest IT Exchange policy. The reason i am comfortable with it is that the camera feature was always available on the iphone i had, so clearly no arguments there AND it still needs to have an unlock (althoug you can choose if its PIN/ words or face unlock - instead of onyl pin) PLUS it still has to be encrypted.

Gives us the same choice or features apple has.

Caps much?

And actually, you can very easily replace the mail apk with one that bypasses the security entirely. I've done it as a test in the past. But as always circumventing your corporate security policy usually warrants disciplinary action of some kind if you are caught, and should be treated no differently than stealing corporate information. Just because you think you're in the clear doesn't mean that what you are doing is something you should be doing.

Hi Would you be able to tell me how or a link. What i want is a) have the face unlock BUT also be allowed to use the notification bar. From most of my research i found the one i have alluded to. Again i understand what you are saying about circumventing security.... but it's silly coming from an iphone4 using the same features i was able to do alot more with little restriction other than a LOCK PIN and ENCRYPTION. Unfortunately on Android it locks everything down... :-(

btw I've read that enhanced email app can block the forced pin policy - is this still the case? It's a bit expensive but would be something I'd have to consider

edit: looks like it has lots of bad reviews ;/ are there any other mail apps that would block forced pin?
