Disable Side Volume Control Buttons

My girlfriend has an Optimus S with CM7 from Drew. Unfortunately she must have dropped the phone one too many times and the volume buttons on the side are being activated just by shaking the phone, so often the annoying volume screen comes up with it increasing or decreasing her ringtones at any random time. Is it possible to disable these buttons, she can just use the Settings -> Volume for the time being.

Any ideas?

Yes it is possible. Take a look at this thread:

You can also use Root Explorer and edit the file right on your phone then reboot. The keypad file is located in /system/usr/keylayout/thunder_keypad.kl

Just delete the entries for the volume buttons and reboot.

FYI, I tested this out and you will not lose the vol up and down key functions in recovery, which is a good thing.

Makes ya wonder about that GPS tracing stuff...the find yer phone apps. I've seen several news local news reports about people getting busted that way. Though I spose u Gotta be quick if some one who knows what to do with it steals it.

Oh, btw I got it back today by using "Plan B", got me the EXACT street address and went with the police and they said they were keeping it until someone wanted to claim it. (After no one would answer and they called a whole bunch of people yay sprint for being able to see your call log live) LMFAO! FAIL!

Sure, glad to help, but you might also want to hit the Thanks/Like button for sblood86, he is the author of the thread I gave you the link to. He contributed a lot of time and trial and error figuring out how to mod the buttons I'm sure.
