When my Pixel 2 is connected via bluetooth to my car's audio system, incoming text messages are spoken aloud. How can I disable this feature?

Are you using Android Auto?
What messaging app are you using?
This is certainly not the default behavior of the stock setup...

I'm using Textra.
I was going to install that so I could see what's going on, since there's probably a setting within Textra that you could disable, but this permissions list is ludicrous:

Good point on the permissions list. I have a hunch that the problem lies within Google Assistant, though.

I found the problem. It was self-inflicted. I use Light Flow (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow), which is a great app. The newest version has a powerful text-to-speech feature which I cleverly enabled to function when connected to my car via bluetooth, and then had no recollection of it when it worked. My excuse is that I don't receive many texts, especially when driving.

Anyway, glad to have the mystery solved.
