Disabled apps launching themselves???

I don't use any of Google's services or products, so I had no use for any of the pre-installed Google apps. So I disabled all of them (the nonessential ones). The only one I kept is the Google Play Store. I use third party apps for everything else.

However, I keep finding the disabled apps RUNNING. How can this happen? Pardon my na?vet?, but doesn't disabled mean DISABLED? Isn't that the whole purpose of disabling something???

Btw, I'm not referring to processes. I know those have to run, so they're not not disabled. I'm talking about nonessential apps like Hangouts and Google Books, or Google Play Music.

The most puzzling part is that it doesn't even happen while I'm using the device. It happens while in SLEEP mode, and with wifi OFF! They're not re-enabling themselves. They're just launching. They're in the running app list, and when I click "app info" to "force close" it, I can see that the app still shows as being disabled.

Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone have any idea why or how a disabled app would launch itself?

Can you describe how you disabled them, please?

<sigh> Of course I did. You're not reading my post. I already said I force closed them.

Closing them is not the problem. Apps that are DISABLED are still launching themselves.

The sighing is really unnecessary. The man is just trying to help, as will I.

I've never witnessed this problem before. Try doing a system cache partition wipe to clear out any potentially wonky temporary system data. This will not cause you to lose any personal data.

1. If your tablet is on, power it off.

2. Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.

3. Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.

4. Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.

5. While holding down Power, press Volume Up.

6. Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe cache partition" and press Power to select it.

7. When complete, highlight "reboot system now" and press Power.

I hope that helps.

@ B. Diddy:
Thank you very much. I will try that. But before I do, could you tell me what exactly that does? And what is affected by it?

PS: sorry, but the gentleman before you wasn't offering any help at all. He asked two practically irrelevant questions, which revealed more lack of knowledge than help.

There's only one way to disable an app. Why would someone knowledgable have to ask me how I did it? Or ask a question that was already answered in my OP?

Wiping the cache partition clears various temporary system data and logfiles from the system cache. Some of this may be left over from a previous system version, so it could potentially slow things down or cause conflicts. I'm not an engineer nor a programmer, so I can't give you the down and dirty details, but I can assure you that as long as you choose "wipe cache partition," you won't lose any personal data.

Golfdriver97 knows A LOT, as you can tell by looking at his profile and seeing how prolific he is, how many Thanks and Likes he gets, and how many Guides he writes. I think the issue with your case is that what you're describing shouldn't be happening. It's a very odd situation, so he was trying to start at the beginning to see exactly how you did what you did.

Also keep in mind that we Ambassadors are all volunteers, and we do what we can to help answer the many questions that appear in this forum. As you can imagine, we sometimes miss some information when we read a post--I've certainly done it.

B. Diddy hit the nail on the head. I was trying to start at the beginning to see what you did. I did miss that you force closed the apps in question, I apologize. I had a nearly 10 hour workday yesterday.
I have run into a couple users in the past who claim to have disabled apps, and really didn't. I was ensuring that what you did was correct.

My sincere apologies, Golfdriver. I shouldn't have jumped to a conclusion like that. My frustration just got the best of me, I guess. Please forgive me. :-)

B. Diddy, thanks for the explanation. I just wanted to make sure it didn't affect any system or app settings. I'll give it a try later this afternoon. Although I won't be able to report any results, as the (disabled) apps only launch themselves once or twice a week. So I'll have to wait to see what happens and if the problem persists, I'll just bump the thread.

However, if anyone else has experienced this same issue, or is familiar with it, please feel free to comment. I keep wondering if I'm the only one who's had this happen.

I have had this happen on an S3 in the past and found that re-enableing the apps in question, Restarting the device and then re-disableing them prevented them from appearing again.

No sweat, it happens. Since B. Diddy is more proficient with a Nexus, you can quote him in this thread. That will get his attention.

Thanks! I'll try that also.

Thanks for understanding :-)

I've had the same thing happen in the past on my Galaxy3. Mostly Google Apps and a few samsung ones like their chat app, I had disabled them and kept finding them running. Knock on wood, after enough times disabling them and force closing them, it appears to have stopped. Goodluck and keep trying
