Disabling screen on when receiving sms notification?

I tried searching through the forum but couldnt find this topic, which kind of surprises me. I just received my S3 yesterday Loving it so far. But one thing... The screen comes on whenever i get a text message, much like what the iphone does. This annoys the crap out of me because I thought most android phones just show an LED blinking light when there is a notification.

Is there any way to disable the screen lighting up and just have the led light blink when i receive a notification? I do NOT want to use any third party sms apps.

Stock messaging app does not support it. You will need to change the app. I use GO SMS PRO because I hated the fact that the screen would turn on! Check that out plus there are many other options. And yes GO SMS PRO is free!

That's heartbreaking I am not a fan of GO SMS PRO. I used it on my HTC One X (which i turned in for the S3) and I didn't like how slow it was.
