I have never messed with it so I'm wondering if you disable sense what all changes? How will this affect my phone? If I do it and don't like the other set up will I have to reset everything when I enable sense again?

How are you planning on doing it?

Sense is a pretty big part of this phones stock OS. If you want it removed you'd be better off rooting and flashing a De-Sensed ROM or waiting for the AOSP/AOKP ROM's to keep improving.

Otherwise, removing the wrong thing will render your phone useless.

If you want a Sense-free ICS experience without rooting, try a home launcher like Nova or Apex.

Don't want to remove anything...just disable it and see if I can find a set up I like better. I just didn't know what would be affected by disabling the sense UI.

You can't disable Sense. Sense is very pervasive. It lives in most of the stock apps. If you just want to "disable" the launcher, install Nova or Apex Launcher and just don't make it the default launcher(when you hit the home key)

Will installing Nova affect the dialer and things like that, too, or just the home screen(s) and app drawer?

Home launchers don't change the dialer. You would have to install a dialer app from the market or flash a custom ROM to change your dialer.

So its a cosmetic thing then...if I don't like my set.up for instance

Yes it will only affect the home screens and drawer. Everything else will be as is.

If you set it as default and then want to go back, just go to the app in settings and clear defaults

I use Nova Prime launcher and I have done a force stop on Sense before to see what it would do, it just restarts itself. If you are going to run a launcher like Apex or Nova just make sure to set up your Sense with a clean slate, no widgets that will be syncing and using resources and battery.

Yup - cosmetic changes -- Sense launcher chews up too much screen imo. Once you install a secondary launcher, makes sure you set it as your "main" - otherwise, every time you hit the home key, you'll be asked "Which launcher? Sense or Apex?"

Here is my phone using Apex Launcher

and before that, ADW Launcher
