Disabling URL bar suggestions/history

I would like to be able to disable suggestions for pages I have visited previously in the URL bar of either the Chrome or Firefox, preferably Chrome. Is there any way to do this, aside from clearing the search history every time I use the browser or manually going into incognito mode--because incognito mode doesn't save cookies and I frankly don't care if my history is saved on my phone. I just don't want it to pop up and tempt me to visit websites like Reddit compulsively.
