disappointing camera - alternative help is appreciated

hi all;
so I have the PH1 and to be honest, the camera is bad as they say (even after all the updates), especially in low light. it produced crappy low light pics. not only compared to this year's flagships but also compared to my nexus 6p or an iphone 6.
its like a nexus 4 camera or something. sorry. thats my experience. i still like the phone.
so, assuming a lot can be fixed with SW. what are my alternatives?

You can try the Google HDR+ port (linked here) or an app called Open Camera. I don't use a smartphone camera in low light without flash so that's not an area I've tested.
