disappointment in screen resolution?

hi AC community future and current TF owners.

I know the TF Infinity isn't out yet, though I was scratching my head thinking a little, that by the time it does come out, will the tablet's screen resolution be outdated?

Here's why I ask:

I have an htc thunderbolt I got about a year ago the day it came out.
TBolt Resolution = 480 x 800 = ~216 ppi (pixels per inch)
Now, here's something impressive worth mentioning, and wish I had on my Tbolt, is the HTC Rezounds (came out end of last year) resolution.
Rezound resolution = 720 x 1280 = ~341 ppi!!!

Now, the current prime's resolution of 1280 x 800 = ~149 ppi
And the TF Infinity with the higher screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 = ~224 ppi

If you've been following the youtube app in the market you know it just had an update yesterday. This update is mainly for HD content.
I do not have the capability to enjoy and watch youtube in HD, though Rezound owners can, and they mention how well it looks. (**I don't spend my whole day watching youtube, though would like better quality if available.)

So in a couple of months, when it will be middle of 2012 and when we're about to fork out $600-$700 (without the dock we'll most likely get which is another $150) then shouldn't we be enjoying even higher quality screens then what we'll get?

In short, the TF Infinity ppi = ~224 against my 14 month old* Tbolt with a ppi = ~216

*(I say 14 month old Tbolt as that will be it's age when the TF Infinity is born)

Please don't misquote me or misunderstand me. This is not me bashing the TF Infinity or is it an "ipad3 will be better" kind of post. I want to see if someone else is thinking along the same lines.
Maybe tablets have and enjoy HD youtube... idk. All I know is that the TF will be my first tablet and just want it to be up to date when it comes out.

Anyone feel the same?

over 200 views and not one peep. well that's ok. we're all in the same boat - just waiting.

btw, if anyone is interested in knowing, apple is now advertising their new ipad 3 at 264 ppi

there really is't much of a difference between the infinity's 224 ppi vs. the ipads 264, keep in mind that they have different physical screen dimensions too.

I'll admit, I thought apple would come out with a higher ppi. But really it doens't matter, the ipad isn't for me (not a fan of iProducts), it's more for my brother and my parents.

for myself, I am still waiting on the infinity.

I'm still waiting for the infinity as well. I honestly think ASUS has the tab game down. They know what they are doing.

I can't imagine that the difference in appearance of screens with 224 vs 264 ppi will really be distinguishable without a microscope to the average viewer. It will probably make a difference for the marketing hype machine, but from a reality standpoint, as a potential buyer, I personally couldn't care less. I will readily admit to my aversion to anything Apple, so that may be biasing my my view.

In the meantime, I think the screen display on my "OLD" Transformer TF101 is absolutely stunning.

You can't really compare your thunderbolts PPI to.that of the Asus screen. Its very different. For one, the thunderbolt uses an outdated sLCD screen. Where as the Transformer prime uses their new super bright IPS display which is much higher quality and has better viewing angels. Much higher contrast ratio as well. Also, even though the PPi you speak of is only slightly higher, you have to remember your using a larger screen device. This means generally you will be using it much further away from your face. This means the PPI can be much less but still look as sharp. This is also why apple calls their new iPad a retina display even though it has 60 PPi less than the iPhone. Also because of the aspect ratio, the pixels will be very close to.got her on the x10 aspect rsti portion of the device. It will be very close to iPad . Screen quality which to m is good enough since the aspect ratio is much better than the iPad 3

In a way Apple lucked out that they launched the iPad with a rather poor resolution 1024x768 in the first place. It makes the Rezzzzolutionary screen seem all that more impressive.

What's annoying is that no Android tablet maker could manage to ship a 1080p display first. Looking at you Samsung, since you were one of the few that could have pulled this off. If that had occurred, there would have been (slightly) less hullabaloo in the media about the new iPad screen.

Guess Samsung was too swamped fulfilling the display order from Apple in between the litigations. :p

great point I didn't consider.

Ok Asus, you may now release the beast! We are ready. :) (**Clears throat** Now is a good time)

My 17" laptop is 1920x1200 and I love the res sitting two feet away from it. Now I'd be getting a screen tech that blows away the tft and is 7" smaller. Why would I complain? I honestly don't see how people do 900 res screens on a 17" laptop. I'm spoiled by my old Dell and would never upgrade to a new laptop and pay a premium for a lower 1080 res screen.

1200p is fine by me. Am hoping I can turn this into an ARM Win8 laptop.

You'd be much better off turning it into a dual boot Android / Ubuntu tablet.

I'm not in the market anyway. Will most likely be passing on this round. Have been content with my Galaxy 8.9 and Epic. Haven't taken my laptop out of the car in about four months. Do most of my Office work on the Epic. And once in a while I'll use the keyboard dock for the 8.9 if I have time to actually sit for a while. So I don't see putting out the coin for this. I also don't see the need for a 10.1" tab anymore. 8.9" seems ot have hit the sweet spot for me between 7 and 10.1 inches.
