Display criticism sends OnePlus CEO on a rant

Other OEMs and USB consortium read the above... One Plus might be smarter than you on this feature, so figure out what makes sense and act accordingly :)
Honestly, Oppo/OnePlus' idea of putting the power-management IC and cooling hardware in the wallwart itself is actually a stroke of genius as it allows phones to charge quicker while being cooler, which also makes it less likely that charging speeds will throttle due to heat.

It's a shame that it's only on devices made by Oppo and the OnePlus 3. Would be grand if the USB Consortium and other OEMs (and Qualcomm) could jump on this. Better charging for everyone. Also makes USB-C certification a little less of a headache if they could make this use USB PD.

But but but it violates that spec. Must be bad. :)

I understand Pei's rant. Making business decisions is hard. The OnePlus 3 is an excellent phone and buyer's are getting a lot for $399. But people will nitpick. Be together, not the same.

Honestly, I think the prominent "NEVER SETTLE" slogan, especially on the phone's default wallpaper, may be partly to blame.

I know it doesn't mean that, but I guess it makes some think that the device has a lot of stuff so that you won't settle for less.

Of course, at $399, we have to expect a bit of settling. But like I said at one point, I find those compromises logical and I think it's an excellent phone, especially at its price point. Way better than the admittedly forgettable OnePlus 2.

That's about right. But that's the internet for you. It gives everyone a platform to be a so called internet expert. But the OnePlus is so far a great device. The screen looks great in person. It is fast and extremely fluid. The dash charging really is the bees knees. It definitely beats all others. The fast chargers can't compete. Even my fast charger's from the HTC 10 and S7 edge aren't as good. Just because something is the standard doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be changed. That's how we progress.

Yep, good phone, good price and that should be the focus. The never settle thing makes it trip over itself, when they could have gone with, "work smarter" or something that highlights some of the decisions they intentionally made to provide a better experience for their users. I have a different thread asking about the similarities between the OP3 and original Moto X - both of which are banking on making risky decisions that make them better than just having another player in the spec war. Which is a great strategy, but requires acknowledgement of that strategy, not denial of it.

The last 1080p pentile AMOLED screen I used was the LG GFlex 2. Considering only the display, how does the OP3 compare if anyone has experience with the qualities of both screens?

In my opinion, I noticed the lack of sharpness in the text with the GFlex 2 1080p pentile. Using 1080p RGB screens and 2k AMOLED, I have become spoiled, and yes the pentile IMO was noticeable. I'm considering the OP3, but the pentile is giving my serious pause due to my experience with the GFlex 2. Sorry to beat a dead horse, wish they had it in stores to just see it for myself.
