Is this normal? When I'm on phone call with speaker or Bluetooth device the display switches off after a min (based on my sleep setting)

But is this normal? Should the display be always on when I'm on a speaker or Bluetooth? There is no way to end the call unless I wake the screen again or even to press keys when I'm on call which requires response via keypad

Is this a bug or nomral for all phones?

When on speaker phone I use the power button to end calls (Settings->Accessibility->Power button ends call). Since I have fingerprint print unlock set by default I'm not in the habit of using the power button to wake my device anyway so this setting works for me.

Unfortunately the pixel has been like that from day one. I seldom use hands free or speaker phone specifically because of this.

But I did notice on "hard knocks" last night the guy calling players to cut them was using an Ifone and it did the same thing. Every time he would go to hang up, he had to activate the screen

That's been the case with every Android phone I've ever had (going back to 2010), and it makes sense. Say you're on a call with some tech support or customer service person. Do you really want your display on if the call is going on for an abnormally long time. Nothing is happening on the display (other than the call duration counting up the minutes). And if you want the screen back on, press the power button to wake the screen. If you want to hang up, press the power button to wake the screen, and press the end call icon on the screen.

It's not overly complicated. The display just times out like it does with any other app. The reason the display goes off right away when not on a speakerphone call is because of the proximity sensor sensing your face against the phone and turning off the display to both save battery and prevent your face from hitting the end call button.
