Distorted picture through Otterbox

I finally received my Otterbox case for my Tab Pro last night but after I installed the device in the case, I almost immediately started having the same issue with the screen as I did with my S4 and an Otterbox case; the screen appears to develop/aquire/absorb some sort of oily substance between the inside of the plastic screen and the touchscreen of the device. It's enough to distort the picture and the only way to get rid of it is to completely disassemble the case and clean the inside of the plastic screen and the device touchscreen. But almost immediately when I get it reassembled, it starts to develop again. This isn't skin oil or anything like that; I never use my fingers on the touchscreen, only a stylus. Even with that it happens. And like I said, my S4 in an Otterbox case does the same thing. My LG G2 on the other hand, never has this problem. I use the same stylus and cleaning cloth on the G2 as I use on the Samsung devices. The Tab Pro and S4 have this problem, the G2 does not. So anyone else have this issue and know what to do about it? Only the Samsung items have this issue and I find it extremely annoying as I am very anal about the appearance of the screens on all my devices and I am constantly cleaning and polishing.

Sorry to hear about your problem. In my experience, this hasn't happened, and I've owned Samsung Devices since the Galaxy S2 (right now rocking a Note 3 and Note 10.1 2014). And I've used Otterboxes (which now I don't like because they're bulky on a large-as-it-is phone), TPU cases, flip-cases, etc.

However, if this is happening to you, YOU SHOULDN'T BE CLEANING THE SCREENS! You should be taking these devices back to the manufacturer and request a Warranty replacement. Unless you tampered with the device before (or are using it in very rough/inadequate condition , no residue of any kind should be able to penetrate the screen.

I have been cleaning them with those soft little cloths that you can get specifically for cleaning touchscreens, etc. No chemicals of any kind, not even water, and as I said I never use my fingers on them; only a stylus. I use the same things on my G2 and have no such problem with that phone and Otterbox.
Interesting that you don't like the Otterbox because of the large size. That is exactly the reason I do like them. My wife made a comment not long ago about how my Tab Pro looks so much smaller than her iPad even though the screen is actually a bit bigger. She has hers in a big hard shell case of a thing. Not to be outdone, I invested in the Otterbox. I also like the protection they offer. I work in an environment that can be hazardous to smartphones.

Oh, no, what I meant by 'not cleaning the screen' was to remove the buildup INSIDE it. Cleaning the outside part is perfectly normal and quite advisable. Hehe. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that the Note 3 is already a big phone and it just about fits my pockets and hand comfortably. When I tried the Otterbox, while it did offer a much higher grade of protection, it just wasn't very nice to hold or pocket anymore. Of course, I don't work in a phone-hazardous environment (and maybe therein lies the problem with your Samsung devices, maybe they're just not built for your kind of work).

In any case, unless you work in REALLY extreme conditions, this buildup shouldn't happen and should be covered by your Warranty.
