Disturbing Edge News

Line one is a More Everything with less than a year left on contract.
Line two is an Edge that is about to be paid off in September. It came with a bonus free GB from a promotion they ran last year.

4 GB total if you count the promotional GB.
20% post office discount.

I just missed their Edge Up promotion by a day. Apparently I'm not THAT valued of a loyal customer lol.

Except if you sign a 2 year contract and pay $200-300 upfront you will be paying the rest of the phone off through your monthly bill anyway.

EDGE gives you a monthly discount since you are not getting a subsidized phone. If you are getting a top of the line phone the cost will be roughly the same over 2 years as a contract.

True, but currently I am on a $60 promotion for unlimited minutes and text + 2gb of data. My friend was doing the pricing today since she's switching from T-Mobile and 2 lines sharing 10 gigs its $40 per line + 80 for the data. The line discounts were around $25 per line so it almost evens out to their T-Mobile unlimited plan. I'd only pay for 2 gigs so I believe my discount would be $15. Not much more than I pay now I guess but I prefer $300 up front and call it a day.

To each their own. I may be missing something and when the time comes I'll look into it.

Was this a Verizon corporate store or third party retailer?

I have a Verizon retailer around the corner from my office and I find them much easier and flexible than the corporate store. They are really good at discussing options and don't push.

My question is- what will Verizon do with those of us that have a 2 year contract that don't qualify for Edge? I was told for 6 months that i would qualify for the Edge program after 6 months of good payment history, then after 6 months, when I inquired about opening a line of service with Edge, I was told I would have to pay a deposit. First, for 6 months, no one I spoke to mentioned a deposit (even though every time I called in about something, I mentioned I would be interested in an Edge line). Second, if I pay a deposit, how can I still have a 2 year Edge agreement? The way it was explained to me was, I would have a lower monthly Edge payment and it would be spread out for 2 years? Why not keep the Edge monthly payment as it should be, and shorten the life of the Edge agreement? I was told that couldn't be done? If Verizon is going to go to strictly Edge agreements, will I have to pay a deposit when that times comes, or will I be able to pay month-to-month with no contract?
