Hm, that's odd. I only get the issues you encountered when I use my OEM wireless charging battery cover. Perhaps it was just a defective batch of cases? Either way, it's good that you found a way to get the case to work for ya.

Switched back to the funky diztronic tpu that I didn't cut the buttons out of. Gunk was getting into the buttons holes.

I'm living with it. The longer it's on I feel like it molds to the phone more but it's still funky. anyway, it's so slim my niece came over last night and said "aren't you ever going to get a case for your phone?" then I peeled it back to show her it's just really low profile.
