DJ05 "officially" Fascinate ROM released by xda

I flashed the DJ05 leak from IRC about a month ago. Is this one any different than that one? I read through that entire thread over at XDA and saw this question asked a few times but couldn't find am answer. I would reflash it again, if I thought it would fix the crackling/popping noise my speaker makes from time to time or if there are any other benefits.

Compared to DJ05 Clean 0.7:
GPS/network signal level seem to be the same (haven't tried other locations)
Update check turns wifi off automatically, then back on when done
Updated versions of stock apps
Added power options from themes don't work (tried multiple themes)
Audio changes in hiddenmenu don't save (bootsound, volume key)
BLN works with BLN Control app
Music Player starts playing as soon as it's launched and pauses when plugging in/removing headphones

Assessment:
I like it enough to rule out the few negatives for my personal setup as I believe the full DJ05 benefits are more present than with Clean 0.7. I can also use stock odexed apps again which is big because the deodexed ones for other ROMS gave me a few issues. I'm happy. I'm keeping it.

@Cory
I haven't taken the time to really compare everything in the fix list, but from my initial review, I noticed a few more of the DJ05 fixes in this one that weren't in the leaked one. Are you using BLN? I've noticed some ambient speaker noise while on calls if I get a notification with it on. Clearing them cleans it up again. And to follow up on my signal review, I have since seen better reception. I usually averaged in the mid -90s in dBm but now I'm in the lower -80s.

Thank you for that assessment. I read it earlier, but I was trying to avoid the "clean ROM". My understanding of that ROM - and correct me if I'm wrong - is that it wipes out all the Samsung stuff, and leaves you with a basic vanilla Android. I tried installing it the other day, and when I tried to reinstall the Samsung puzzle piece lock screen, I ended up temporarily bricking it. I'm not familiar with what BLN is. I guess it's time for me to get back in the IRC room for a bit!

The only reason I'm running a super clean Rom is because I needed a deoxed rom to install a theme. Love the gingerbread theme on xda. Too bad it brought Bing back.

If you are willing to remove most of the Verizon bloated yourself and remove Bing yourself then the roms on xda don't offer much. If you want to play with themes it seems they are required.

It takes out the Samsung widgets but you'll still have TW. sonofskywalker has a ton of the stock apps and features in ROM Manager you can reinstall if you don't like the AOSP versions that the other ROMs install. They have always worked for me, but is kind of a hassle. I too prefer to just stick with stock versions of ROMs and remove what I don't want manually. The only reason I jumped on the JT bandwagon temporarily was for the DJ05 fix. As soon as DJ05 stock came out I got it and have been in love. As far as BLN (Back Light Notification) goes, I guess if you don't know what it is, you don't have it. Some kernels have the feature built in to allow the use of apps (like BLN Control) to light up your soft keys when you get a notification in lieu of having an LED indicator.

If you want to play with themes it seems they are required.

I've never had issues with themes on the stock odexed file system aside from advanced power options not working, but I've never installed a theme just to get those.

So has anyone else noticed the sidetone issue seems to be resolved in DJ05? There still might be some, but it's far below the level it was previously. Battery life seems to be really good too.

I'm having a few little issues - the dreaded black address bar in the de-binged browser, for some reason, the 3G icon in the status bar flashes between the normal icon and what looks like a voicemail icon. And while the signal strength seems to be the same as before (around -95), the bar display seems to be lower - 0 to 1 bar usually. But considering the vast improvement in call quality thanks to a reasonable sidetone, and the great battery life, I'm happy to live with these little quirks. I may just edit my framework-res.apk to replace the 0 and 1 bar signal icons with 2 bar ones!

And that reason would be... not doing a data/cache wipe (at least for me.) My icons were super messed up, first the 3g icon went to the voicemail bubble then the gps and wifi icons would come and go as they pleased and never represented whats actually going on. Reinstalling the rom made it all better.

Never mind: NOOB failed to read all theposts in this thread. Sorry.

I installed this ROM yesterday and am getting word from people that my text messages are showing up blank. So far I have only sent texts to people on the Verizon network. Is this an issue anyone else is having? I love the look and feel of the ROM and hope there is a work around for the text issue!

That would be a D101 framework not playing well with the DJ05 system. I too had the same issue when I tried to put my old framework with a battery percentage back after getting DJ05. I had to restore the original framework (from the DJ05 rom) then use a DJ05 theme. Even putting a DJ05 theme on my modified framework messed with the themes icons too.

That would be from not having your ROM/modem/kernel all from the same version. I'd guess you also don't have vibration function either. Check your baseband and build in Settings > About Phone. If they both end in DJ05 you need to get a DJ05 kernel like StupidFast v1.5 or later.

Okay so I'm just finishing installing the rom, and I want to use Geeknik's kernel, and want to try to use the gingerbread theme. Is this possible? What are the kernel's I can use with the gingerbread theme? And can I do this with ROM Manager? Thanks

I actually did my battery percent mod to the new DJ05 framework since I figured there could be conflicts using the old one. Strange.

Well, I flashed back and forth between JT's ROM and the stock DJ05, and whether it's real or just a display issue, I consistently get poor Wifi and cellular reception with JT's. I suspect it's more than a display issue, since I actually had the WiFi connection drop completely on several occasions. On the stock DJ05 ROM, it's totally solid. Not sure I'll get quite the battery life, but a WiFi connection takes residence.

I hope these things get worked out... JT's DI01 .4 worked perfectly.

*Edit*

Ok, it was an issue with the framework file. Although I did do my little battery percent mod to the new framework, as opposed to using the old one, there must have been changes to the way the new one is put together. I used the same batch program I wrote to help with modifying the framework, but it messes up the DJ05 file for some reason, resulting in weird icon problems and FC's in certain apps. I'll have to track down the changes at some point.

In the mean time, I put a new framework together manually, and all seems well. I updated my post with a link to the DJ05 version, if anyone's interested: http://forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=432096#post432096
