Have had my INC since day one, and my first smartphone. After digging in (and finding out about Android Central) and still discovering things that this phone can do. My next phone will be an extremely hard choice.

It took me close to 3 months to decide on a laptop.
Have been looking for a new Android phone for atleast 2.5 months and the process is still ongoing!
Have finalized on Atrix but the phone is still not out.

Everyone has an opinion/review and with internet, its all out there! Internet...the worst invention ever!

Yea never been much of a crackberry fan myself but I did run into that when deciding to upgrade my Treo. Danced back and forth between the Pre and flipping to android, until I saw previews for the EVO! Then there was no question.

Oh and if he wants autotype show him swype...sooooo much better and faster!!

I decided to switch from my Pre to the Evo sight unseen, ordering the Evo over Sprint's website. Sorry to see Palm go, but they came a little late to the party with so much less development effort than Android. Google should've bought them for the patent portfolio.

When I see something elegant, I want it as soon as possible, started off with the brilliance of the Dell Adamo, then the Pre, then the Evo, and the latest, the Galaxy Tab. It's just too bad most guys can't appreciate nice things.

I think it is important to take your tim when choosing a smartphone. You are potentially looking at a two year investment. With ETFs as high as they are, making a good choice is crucial.

He uses auto text a lot and that is one issue for him among other things.

As a former BB user (and addict), I too missed my autotext. Early on, I found SmartKeyboard Pro which allows for autotext (which is different than quick text).
I type things like "ch" and it inserts "coming home" or "lmk" becomes "let me know." Likewise, "u" becomes "you" and "ull" becomes "you'll" - that way my texts sound more professional, yet I can still type shorthand. I have about 40 or so set up.

Obviously that's not the only thing holding him back, but you mentioned it a few times so I figured I'd pass it on.....

I agree, but at the same time, you know when it's the right device pretty quickly.

I dunked my Treo and had already decided on another WinMo phone. Spent 2 hours in a store playing with everything from the HTC WinMo's (Laggy) to the OG Droid and the new Palm's. Then I picked up the DInc and told the sales person to wrap it up in less than 5 minutes. I did not intend to buy a DInc or an Android device at all when I walked in, and I could not be happier.

I was so over the iPhone and counted my days for the contract to end....then made the jump to Verizon (DX) and I'm staying with Android. No VZW iphone for me! I just so over that.

I don't need a new friend ! He knows I am teasing him but I think he is going to make the switch. He actually called me and I told him this is getting to be ridiculous. I can understand taking time about a car or a house, but a phone..?..he has been thinking about this for a really longggggggggggg time, too long ! April when the phones was released.....thats how long ! I think once he jumps off the BB and has the INC in his hands, he will then realize he should had just done it.

Agreed. Smart keyboard pro is awesome. Autotext was one thing I really missed too. Now we have it too.

When I was researching getting my first smart phone, I spent a couple of months doing the research. Part of it was that my upgrade wasn't available right away, so I wanted to go in with the research already done. Of course, back then is was mostly between BB (OS 4.2) and WM5. I ended up going with a BlackBerry (WM6 was taking too long to be released).

I've been watching Android for a while, but more out of interest to see what the platform was like, rather than looking to switch. We had the opportunity to switch to SGS Mesmerizes for free, so we jumped on it - no delay.

I'm really glad I did. It took some tweaking (noLED, SmartKeyboard, Bedside, Quick Profiles) to make it an easier transition, but after just one week with my SGS, I was completely hooked.

I thought I was going to miss AutoText. I had a pretty big library of autotext words set up, including email signatures and some small sentences that I would use a lot (hru = How are you?, omwh = I'm on my way home...). Smart Keyboard Pro took care of that, and even though I never used a SureType keyboard on BB, I sometimes use SmartKeyboard's compact keyboard in portrait mode. I actually prefer Swype now (portrait mode). I can actually type almost as fast as I did on my Tour.

One thing I know. Guys like to tweak things. That's one good selling point with Android. You can tweak it to work the way you want it to.

I, too, fully understand. I am about to switch from AT&T to Big Red and have been researching various phones for the past month or so. BB was hard to let go because of the battery life and email but once you venture out and get a taste of freedom(Android), BB is really behind the times.

I have a friend and I swear he is worse than a woman deciding on a lipstick.
I know why I chose the Incredible over staying with BB and so why have you switched? I think my friend is taking too long to make a decision and needs to know exactly what he is missing out on.
I am so glad that I don't have to deal with battery pulls, freezing, lagging.
I can look and do multiple things..........calls are crystal clear
Internet is so fast ! texting sure is great cause you can text and not worry about the 160 character limit.........he is obsessed with autotext and I know we don't have it on the incredible but it does correct in texting mode !

He calls me a Droid martian. whatever. All I know it I love my INC and I have had no issues since making the switch. Battery life is my only complaint but I have the extended 1800 mAh and it has given longer usage of up to 4 hours for me and that is huge ! I haven't used a charger once today and I still have 30% left on the battery and it is after 9 p.m.

So as it is with a lipstick seems to be no different here......it is a phone that does so much. JUST GET IT !!!

Its just simple intelligence to take your time and research a 2-year commitment like your phone!

Why wouldn't you take your time to be sure you're making the right decision?

I was thinking 1 day: should I stay with my BB9700 or switch to Android? The next day I went in a T-Mobile store and walked out with a myTouch 4G. But hey, that's just me, I tend to do the same with my women.

The DI is not really outdated and its specs STILL hold up against all other phones currently out there, or have been announced. The Thunderbolt will be released this month, and it does have LTE, but its a huge phone. If the OP's friend doesn't need LTE or the huge screen, there is still nothing wrong with going with the DI.
