Do any Android phones have the same message blocking ability as Blackberry?

I'm thinking of switching to the Bionic (when it comes out) from Blackberry. In my Blackberry, I can choose an option in the Security menu to block SMS & MMS from anyone outside my contact list. Can ANY Android phones do this? Which ones?

Between spam text messages and former "friends" that will not go away, this is a must have for me. It would also need to work for blocked numbers. Blocking through Verizon is not an option. Neither is changing my number. I need my phone to do this for me. I will need to stay with Blackberry if Android doesn't offer this solution.

I did try to search for this topic but I wasn't able to locate anything specific to my question. I did read some threads regarding blocking calls that sounded promising for that issue. TIA for answering and any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are some apps that are supposed to block, but I haven't had any luck getting them to work 100% of the time. Android itself does not have this feature.

What's wrong with Verizon blocking though? I have some numbers blocked, and I just login to my account and add/remove as needed.

When I called Verizon, they could not help me with one of my "problems". Unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible), you have to have the phone numbers to block. One of my problems apparently has a new number and blocks it when sending messages. Verizon told me they couldn't see the number to block it. ??? I can't see it either on my detailed billing but it shows messages being sent to me. I've since been using my blackberry feature to handle this annoyance.

Handcent, the best SMS/MMS app for android imo, has this feature. You can add any one person to your blacklist, or you can go into the filter settings and select "Unkown Number Filter." This blocks anything not in your contacts.

You can also setup your own filters by words, prefix/area codes, ect.

Therefore, any android phone can do this as you can load these types of apps on any of them.
