Do any of you join the monthly Samsung step challenges?

Absolutely! You've got to ignore the top first percentile though, as there are a bunch of cheaters.

Besides that though, it's a great way for me to be competitive with my workouts because I don't have many friends who are runners. Also, the challenges integrate with the Galaxy Watch's Samsung Health app.

Oh my gosh ... those cheaters. It is so annoying to wake up the first day of the month PST and see someone has already gotten 200,000 steps. Sure .... Samsung claims to be working on stopping the cheats. Sure ... Lol.

Heh, yeah that's pretty annoying. As someone who jog a lot (at least compared to my sedentary self from last year) and logs about 12,000-20,000 steps a day, it's mildly annoying to see the people who are apparently putting on a cape and flying across the country. Samsung could really solve this by just using some simple analytic techniques and cutting out the people with absurdly high techniques. But when I remember that these people are only cheating themselves, it doesn't bother me as much.

Besides, when it comes to software, Samsung has some far deeper issues with their Samsung Health app. I'll settle for someone fixing the time zone issue that causes calories logged after 6 PM central time to get recorded the next day.

I didn't know how I am always in the 17 percentile. Thanks for telling me about the cheaters. Lol. How do they do it ?? I mean how is it possible to cheat the steps ?

I think they must use some kind of machine, or use three or more devices, but it's not right.

I did the step counter and followed the challenges last winter. Manged to stay in the top 5%, required walking 70 plus miles a week to accomplish. I worked retail at the time and did actually walk 7 to 12 miles a day.

Well if you do a certain sexual thing to yourself while wearing your watch the step count will go up. Trying to be tasteful here... Lol.

To be serious, I don't do it as my watch doesn't record my treadmill steps very well and you can't add them manually.

Heh, all kinds of creative ways to do this. I guess you could put your phone on a waterbed next to an active electric massager device, or something of that nature. It's pretty easy to cheat the step counter, so I'm guessing this is what most people do. Of course at the end of the day these people are only cheating themselves, since those of us who don't cheat are actually getting in shape, and the cheaters don't get any tangible prize to speak of. :)

Really? That's no good! Have you compared to your non-treadmill workouts? I jog outside most days, but on days when it's raining or snowing I use a treadmill indoors. I do the same distance either way, and have found that the step count is fairly consistent.
