Do any of you use your 4G?

I leave it off most of the time to conserve battery lift.

I have a 4g card and hotspot for my house so it's pointless to turn WiFi on at home because I would just be using the same network. I use it at the office every now and then. Here in Vegas its pretty good, so I mostly use it when I'm waiting for something or before class.

4G service where I live is very spotty (I literally live on the last house on the street that with 4G coverage according to the coverage map), so i usually don't turn it on unless I am having issues with speed and there is no available wifi.

I use it a lot when I am on a call someone is always asking me for something that requires me to use data.

Later,
Dave

My 4G is faster than my wifi (sucky apartment with tons of wifi signals)

Not to go off topic but why not use the free app from the market called WiFi analyzer and find a clean channel in your apt and change your wireless router to that channel??

BOT, I live in 4G and only turn it on for testing purposes. Other than that its a battery hog and 3G suits my needs perfectly.

I don't even live in an advertised 4G area but 4G is alive and well in Nashville, TN all the way down to Murfreesboro, TN... and I usually get a good MB or 2 better speed on 4G vs my WiFi and I don't live in an apartment and have a pretty good wireless router...

I don't use 4G that often at all.... Like others on here I just don't think about it much and keeping it on really kills the battery... Plus the other day I tried to use my 4G connection to upload a video I had done on the phone to you tube and it told me I had to be on WiFi???? But my 4G connection is faster than my WiFi connection.....

Any way I thought the point of 4G was to upload/download larger files like a video????

Other than that I love Sprints overall coverage and pricing and the EVO is a top notch 3G phone even if you don't have 4G coverage..

Depends on where you are in the Boro.... I actually live in Murfreesboro.. Over off Mansion near Blackman and I get a great 4G signal at the house but at the Avenue or Stones River... Nothing.... Barely a sniff of 4G but if you head towards Smyrna up towards Nashville your usually going to get a decent 4G signal depending exactly where your at..... Turn it on and see what you get...

Odd. So i was just thinking how I haven't used it in a while. So I went to turn mine on, and it won't stay on. It immediately shuts off. I'm not rooted and I have the latest updates. This is really weird.

I use up as much 4g in LA as I can when I'm there because I can't get it at home in san diego.

Oh okay, thanks for the info. Iam over off South Church will ride around tomorrow and see what i get. Have been just keeping it off.

I'd like to use 4G more since it's becoming more and more available in the DC area, but I usually stick to 3G. Turning on 4G destroys the battery life from my experience.

I get about 3500-6000kbps here in MD and DC. When I was in boston a few weeks ago, I was getting close to 10kbps

There are random spots here in New York City so the ones I know of I turn it on while I'm there. Supposedly it'll go fully live in November but I'll probably leave it off unless I need to DL something big or stream videos. Maybe I'll give it a chance and try a couple days of 4G always on and see just how big of battery drain it is for me.

I use it when i'm on Chicago for work sometimes. Just turned it on here in Pittsburgh and found a signal at my house! I've been driving around with Spotify to fill in the 4G map in Pit. Sadly it is only about 2-3mbs here, got almost 9mbs in Chicago.

Let me know what you find... Speeds are all over the chart at home I Get great 4G but there are a lot of area's that it's weak and 3G is almost as fast as 4G

I ran into the same issue.Android needs an update to support 4G networks with LTE coming next year as well.

Great idea!

I get excellent 4G speeds while at work in downtown nashville. I pretty much keep my phone plugged in and wireless tether on, so I always have a 4G hotspot.

Interesting about using 4G data and phone at same time. I had no idea we could do that, although it does make sense.

So does just leaving 4G on all the time really impact the battery? If yes, am I the only one who finds that odd? I'm still waiting for 4G to be turned on in my area, but if I end up having to manually turn it on and off I'm going to be annoyed.

Prepare to be annoyed then. And why would you find it odd? It's a separate wireless radio, so when you turn on 4G you have both the 3G and 4G radios going, plus you may have weak signal to contend with (e.g., if you're in the car, you'll likely go in and out of 4G). 4G is also high frequency so penetrating some buildings will weaken the signal if you aren't somewhat near a window (which I usually am). To be honest, it doesn't kill my battery that bad if I am just at work or something, but YMMV. The widget to toggle 4G is simple and not bad at all; literally takes a few seconds. Is it less than ideal? Yes, but 4G is quite worth it, IMO.
