Do Apps always (!) have to ask for access permissions? Even during installation or first launch?

Assume I install an Android App (on Android 16).

Do all (!) such Apps have to ask for permission to access my
- contacts
- camera
- microphone?

even during installation and/or first launch?

Yup. Policy change from a couple Android versions ago to focus on Privacy and to clearly state what an app has access to. For instance, if you install an app that's supposed to only take notes, it would be weird if it asks for access to your Phone's status and Contacts. If you install a Social Media app, it wouldn't be weird if it asks for access to your Photos/Media, but it would be weird if it asks for permission to make changes to your Phone's settings.

either grant access in permissions or live with being asked every time you open the app!!

Like @SpookDroid said...it depends on the app and what it's asking for. Maps won't work as you'd expect if it can't access GPS (say goodbye to turn by turn directions).

Most apps have the permission enabled by default unless you go in it and change them like chrome I'll post for example Screenshot_20251227_205706_Permission%20controller.jpg
