AC Question

is it a virus on galaxy S4?

last night my son said his games are gone on his phone, when I had a look all the apps are gone (apart from default), the SD card says it has 0 bytes available and 0 bytes free (works fine on a PC) even tried reformatting it and it still says 0 bytes, and when we go onto the internet and try download a APK it say "internet has stopped", we also get "play store has stopped" when we try to go on play store (and this comes up every 5 seconds until we disable it in app manager), and "s health has stopped" when we start it up, weve done every reset we can find on the net and every cashe clear we can find, im pulling my hair out here

its a galaxy s4 GT-19095 running kitkat 4.4.2

many thanks in advance

john

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Welcome to Android Central! Is it only the microSD card that shows 0 bytes available? How about Internal Storage? Are the apps that disappeared ones that were moved to SD?

It may be that the SD card failed, which is not that uncommon. If that's the case, any game progress that was saved to the SD is probably lost. Try running chkdsk on the SD card from your PC: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html. Also try wiping the system cache partition: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Thanks for the reply, I tried the clear cashe partition, and all the games are gone from the phone from when we did a reset, and being as tho we can't get in play store we cannot download them again, and Internet won't let you download the apk's

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Also the sd card is recognised when I go into install os from external device when you use vol up, power and home button

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

After you did the factory reset, were you able to log back into your Google account during the Setup Wizard?

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Ah, we skipped that bit, but when we went into play store it did ask us to log in, but when we went to download something it came up "play store has stopped"

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Ok, just reset it again and it logged into the account when we were in the wizzard

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Ok, put sd card in another s4 and it reads it, so sd card is ok, also reformatted sd card in other phone and put it back and still comes up 0.0b

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Try a different SD card in the phone. Does that one also read 0 GB available?

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Yes, 2 different sd's both read ok in other phone but 0.0b in this one, one 8gb the other 16gb both different manufacturers, also in file manager it say no files on the phone

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

I wonder if something failed in the SD slot.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if this still happens. If it does, then something is wrong with the hardware or the firmware. Safe Mode steps are at the bottom of this article: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

Re: is it a virus on galaxy S4?

Well I tried loading a new os (same kitkat 4.4.2) and it saw the file on the sd card, and it tried loading it but came up a error about e something and signature, so I'm assuming the slot is ok, problem is my son has gone back to his mums for two weeks with the phone, would Samsung fix a firmware problem? Phone is 4 months old btw

What's the easiest way to redo the firmware? As the links I've found are either dead or the download contains tons of malware or I have to sign up to a subscription to get onto the download page

Thanks mate, I'll have a look, but might not get to see the phone for a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how I get on tho, I appreciate the help so far

Redone the firmware and all seems ok, can get on play store and download, can look in my files and there's files there and under storage one SD card says 7.4gb so me and my son thank you very very much, it is much appreciated
