Do I Need a Screen Protector

I'm coming from an OG Droid which I have had since it was released. Over the past 2 years its gotten its fair share of drops and scrapes and whatnot, yet I have managed to not have to deal with a scratch; even the tiniest one. I know the OG Droid has a GorillaGlass screen, and from what I'm told, the Thunderbolt does not. Can the Thunderbolt be scratched or should I leave a screen protector (not a big fan of those) on?

I got a great anti glare screen protector off amazon 3 for $3 a lot nicer then normal ones. Anti finger print too.

I would recommend one though.

I have the Zagg Invisheild and love it. I like the orange peel feel to it and it does great job protecting it. Also it has a life time guarentee if it ever gets scratched up you can send it back for a new one less the cost of s&h of your invisheild back to them. Also who ever told you the Thnderbolt does not have Gorilla Glass is incorrect. It in fact does. Have a look your self.

Interesting...I must have been sleeping when I looked at that list

So if it has Gorilla Glass should I expect it to not get scratched?

I use a zagg invishield as well. Way I see is better safe than sorry. Sure the thunderbolt has Gorilla Glass, but hey things happen....

I didn't have one until I got a crack in my screen one day and I didn't drop it, was just out in the heat. Not sure if it will save it but better safe than sorry.

Steinheil makes really good ones that are anti finger print. Got one for my wife's Droid charge. I have a zagg invisishield but don't like it as much. you can't even tell she has a protector on her phone and it does well repelling fingerprints.

I'm not sure what's going on with the Gorilla Glass.. at first it didn't have it and now its listed that it does. One thing I can say is on my DroidX... never had one scratch (gorilla glass) ... on my Galaxy Tab.. never had one scratch (gorilla glass). The Thunderbolt.. the first one.. 4-5 light surface scratches. My second one that I've had for two weeks now.. already has a surface scratch and I'm super protective of how I treat my phones. So.. I'm not sure what kind of Gorilla Glass this is but the screen does scratch. I still don't use a protector because I can't stand them but don't count on the screen being scratch resistant.

Well, I went 2 days without a protector, and the TB got four small scratches. I accidentally put my keys in the same pocket. If that is Gorilla Glass, it's useless.

same here with my bolt, I have one small scratch on the bottom of my screen....and I am careful of where I put it, either in my front pocket without my keys, or my back pocket while walking

does the anti glare really work? i can't see crap when im outside in the day time!

Eh I wouldn't say it works great, I love it for he anti finger print. When I bought the phone the Verizon rep put one on and everytime I touched he screen it would leave a streak that was rainbow looking I would have to clean it multiple times a day.

I have had this anti finger print one on for 2 months and I clean it maybe 1 a week if it gets bad, but its usually not necessary.

GorillaGlass is "scratch resistant" not "scratch proof". Like everyone is saying better to be safe than sorry. Get a screen protector for piece of mind. There are several different ones out there that people prefer. I would just try one at a time till you're satisfied with the one you like then stick with that particular one.

That is true but these aren't deep scratches. Just a few light surface scratches that are barely noticeable unless you're looking in the right lighting. I've never seen Gorilla Glass do that before and I see I'm not the only one. The only time I notice them is when the screen is off against the black background. It really makes me wonder if this is actually Gorilla Glass.. I've never seen this happen on any other device using GG before.

I dunno it seems like a small price to pay for the protection provided. Unless you have a thing for not having one on. Mine came with the phone. I don't much care for it but I've had it on since I got it and would rather have a more clear one. As soon as I use the other two I'll be in the market for a new one.

The only thing I have ever heard in this forum is that the bolt didn't come with GG.

That was in one of the complaint threads, I can't remember if it was supposed to be used in it originally or if people we mad that it didn't since quite a few other phones had it...

Either way, this is the first I have heard of GG being on the bolt, a lot more posts saying that it doesn't have it.

i would definitely go with the screen protector. keys and phone in the pocket is the worst for scratches. i believe the TB has generic gorilla glass, not the brand name stuff.

Lol generic?

Like primate plexiglass?
Or
Orangutan optics?

Didn't know there was generic GG, sounds like a good business to get into if I can make up 2 business names that quick. Haha

Easy solution... NEVER put your phone in a pocket! Instead use a Seidio holster where the phone faces into a felt lining and protects the screen! :) As to the finger smudges, be sure your fingers are clean before touching it like I do (hate a smeared greasy screen). :p

I have loads of scratches...never noticed but never dropped or anything, just from regular use...also looks like some chipped because i have 2 1 cm lines of rainbow....its not gorilla glass...liars...
