Do I need android auto?

Isn't Apple Maps the default in CarPlay? How do you make GMaps come up when you choose maps in CP?

You tap on Google Maps from the screen/dash. Apple allows 3rd party maps in CarPlay now. Siri will still try and default to Apple Maps (because of course Apple) but you can tap Google Maps and use it. It even has a MIC button within Google Maps that you can use to ask for locations using Google.

Cool. Did not know that and didn't think that was likely (because of course Apple). Thx.

Love using AA in my car . Connects to the head unit and I can switch back and forth between Google Maps and Waze . Works like a charm going from NY to Virginia and back.

- "buggy mess" Seriously? - never had a problem. Use almost every day.

Mine closes every time a call is hung up from my end or the other end. Too dangerous to re-launch it then so you'd have to pull over. They also really need to make an incoming call just a small popup so it doesn't cover your navigation full screen every time you get one.

Strange. Haven't seen that issue with ours.

Do I need android auto? By default my Pixel 3 has Android Auto installed but the car has no functional interface with the app. The phone can connect to the car via Bluetooth and I can make and answer calls thru the car hands free. My question comes down to this. When I get in the car android auto come on and hides the phones home screen and just seems to be in the way. I can't uninstall android auto and would like to know if there's a way to not self activate.

Very much safer, and does what you need it to do when driving a car. I love it. But yes you can disable it. I do think that with pressure from the governments around the world, there will be a stranger push for this kind of thing. Making it mandatory.

Mine never did this.
