Do I neet to root my Nexus 5 before taking a backup of Stock Rom 4.4.4?

Nexus 5 Stock Rom 4.4.4 Backup

I am going to update my nexus 5 to lollipop. But before that I want to take backup of my current rom. I am running stock android 4.4.4 kitkat. Do I need to root my phone before taking backup of rom??Guyz anyone can help me in doing this?

Well, you would need to at least flash a custom recovery in order to make a backup of your stock ROM. however, once you do that, I am not sure you can accept the OTA of 5.0. Is there anything specific you want to back up?
