Do I Really Need A New Smartphone

Just out of curiosity, which smartphone being manufactured today would come closest to the specs of the Nexus 6P?

Or is the Nexus such a dinosaur, there's nothing to compare it with today.
Define close. Because there's no flagship today with a headphone jack and removable battery.

However midrangers have come to the point where they are pretty capable. I mean the Galaxy A50 and Pixel 3a, both costing between 350-400 USD, are also both more powerful than the Nexus 6P, with more versatile cameras as well.

..the 6P didn't have a removable battery.

Water proofing doesn't exist with phones. There's lab tested water resistance, but even that is little more than a marketing gimmick. It doesn't account for real world variables, and manufacturers don't warranty water damage. That would fall under accident insurance.

I may be one of the few who have appreciated water-resistance. Being able to have a phone call for several minutes in extremely heavy rain is very useful for me (I live in the UK, so rain is ._.)

My S7 Edge has IP68 and has survived heavy rain, a spilt glass of water and even snow and is still performing smoothly. For that I’m grateful.

The more I thought about it, the less I care about it since even with those ratings:

1. Water resistance isn't waterproof
2. Water damage isn't covered by the warranty

I don’t need waterproof, just water resistance. Nor do I really care about warranty because my phone has passed its warranty. Again, for me, the fact that my phone can survive for several minutes in heavy rain or snow gives me peace of mind and is practical.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like everyone has pretty much confirmed my suspicion. Keep my Nexus 6P until it croaks.

The battery isn't an issue. I'm not a heavy user. While I have watched videos in the past, I no do since I purchased a tablet. I honestly don't know if this extends the battery life but I start charging it when it get to around 20% and only charge it to around 80%. That's enough to get me through the day as I only use it to check emails, text and occasional browsing.

I'm of the same mindset, I keep my phones for ages. Unfortunately in one way that came back to bite me...... when I needed a good backup phone I found I didn't have one :O I think it's fine to keep a phone until it dies, but you always need a good solid backup phone available at all times. If I were you, I would pick up a good phone as either a backup, or make it your new main phone and make the 6P the backup while it's still running fine ;-)

Currently in the market for a good backup myself. My Honor 8 is getting LONG in the tooth.

LONG in the tooth.... I like that, it made me chuckle lol. Yep if you pick up another phone fairly soon, you'll probably be able to use your honor 8 as a good backup with some life left in it if that's what you choose ;-) Or you could use the honor 8 till you finish it off knowing you have a new toy waiting. I picked up a pixel and retired my mxpe still working great. In fact I was updating my mxpe today and getting it all ready for a possible Sim swap. It's really nice having a backup phone just a Sim swap away :-D

I personally have 2 backup phones, one for myself and another for my husband. They've come in handy more often than not.

I'm still using my Samsung Galaxy S6, and although apps have started to take a fraction of a second longer to load and the battery is on its way out, the phone itself is still good. I'm thinking about getting something else but only because I'd like more camera options and having moved to using Google for pretty much everything I'd like something more pure android, although I'm finding it difficult to persuade myself to spend so much just for these things as my S6 has a great camera and I can ignore everything not Google. There, I've convinced myself....another year it is then.
You would do well with the Pixel 3a then. Lower priced but well specced still with great camera and stock android. Updates and security guaranteed as well.
