Do NOT BUY Nexus 5 if you want Miracast that works

pretty bad that I have had to go out and buy a second-hand Nexus 4, to get the features that won't work on my new Nexus-5!

This fault has been spoken about for more than a month now, yet not a murmur of acknowledgement from either Google or LG

It's really nothing short of false advertising

Here is another example of incompatible device: Lenovo WD100. I bought it quite cheap (<$30), and got excited seeing Nexus 5 can find it in "Cast Screen" -- but it cannot connect! There are two typical patterns: Either showing "connecting..." for a long while, then WD100 resets, and Nexus 5 will crash; or show "Connecting..." for a few seconds then WD 100 resets and Nexus 5 back to the pre-connection screen.

So I thought my $20+ is wasted... wait, my wife has a Nexus 4! So I grabbed it -- within 15 seconds (I mean it) its screen is projected on my TV!!!! Played some Youtube videos -- with a few glitches but hey the video is on my TV.

Both Nexuses ran 4.4.2, so the difference cannot be SW but must be HW or driver.

Will LG ever fix it? LG certain knows how to make it right since it makes both 4 & 5.

I don't know what's wrong with your nexus devices guys. I tried miracast with my gf's nexus 5 to a sony bravia TV. Worked without a glitch. There was of course some delay (appr. 1 sec), but it was smooth. Played asphalt 8, and played some youtube videos.. everything worked fine

These threads wouldn't pop up as much if Google, or LG, or whichever of the two had ponied up the few extra bucks for MHL support.

Why? MHL is not wireless. It belongs MHL vs Slimport (which N5 supports) debate.

Miracast is a separate feature. The only thing here in common seems from the ppl who own a Panasonic Miracast receiver (in BD players or so) have trouble with N5. Other Miracast receivers like NetGear, Sony, LG etc. are fine. So, it really boils down to specific Miracast receiver problem.

yes, works fine on all Sony TVs, and that's about ALL it works with, including LGs own devices, and LG make the Nexus 5! *facepalm*

Works with my LG smart TV. No glitches.

went out and bought an LG Bluray player (Miracast enabled, of course) and it STILL does not work even with that. I was thinking maybe the previous Panasonic Bluray was a part of the problem, but it's NEXUS 5 FAIL - ALL THE WAY

wrong ..... replaced the Panny with a LG Bluray (BP730) and still the same problem. Nexus/LG can't even make a product talk reliably to their own products, whereas Nexus 4, Nexus 7 tablet (Asus), Samsung Galaxy 3, Galaxy 4 and Ainol (cheapy tablet) all work just fine with both Panasonic and LG Blurays

the ONLY devices my Nexus 5 will work with is Sony TVs

The SlimPort looks like it works in the video in this link. Chromecast will soon have this solution fixed. I don't want SlimPort or MHL if it takes wires.

I've got an IOGEAR GWAVR Miracast/WiDi device and I can't get my Nexus 5 to work with it. It tries to connect, then after a minute it gives up and most times this also locks up the phone so that it doesn't respond to screen touches anymore. Fantastic quality here, Google. This is BS. I've emailed Google for help, their responses are beyond useless.

my experience with Nexus 5 continues to be a total fail, pretty much like your own experience. Clearly, Google don't CARE!

It does work. You have to turn on Wi-Fi Direct before you cast screen. It works differently than the nexus 7, but it works great.

where exactly do i have the option to turn on wifi direct on my nexus 5?

Settings. Then tap on the actual word "WI-FI" then scroll to the bottom where you will see on the lower right hand side three small squares stacked vertically. Tap the stack and you will see "WI-FI Direct" as your third option in the list.

Hope this helps. :)
