Do Not Disturb sometimes deactivates prematurely

I set Do Not Disturb so the only exception is media, and to stay on for, say, 9 hours. But on occasion I get woken by notification sounds from emails or texts and when I check the status it is no longer active even though it should be. Most of the time, though, it remains active for the set period of time.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what's causing this.

Are you manually turning on DND, or setting it as a schedule? Do you have other schedules turned on?

It's definitely not rebooting in the middle of the night. (I know the device well. I'd know if it was set to do that, and I'd know if it ever did that -- the VPN enables upon reboot, until I manually turn it off.)

Hmm, tricky. I'd suggest testing it in Safe Mode to rule out any 3rd party apps you installed, but that can be tedious since it doesn't happen very often.

I really appreciate the help.

Testing in Safe Mode would be unrealistic because it's been far too intermittent. It happens maybe one time in 10-20 nights. It's happened I think three nights in total, which is over the past few months of infrequent use of DND (though now I'm using it reguarly).

I've never gone into Bixby. When it tries to put me in, I've always just exited out. So, no, as far as I know, I don't use any Bixby routines.

Is your DND toggle in the Quick Settings? If so, could it be that you're occasionally tapping that toggle inadvertently? The notification panel can drop down due to random touches when a phone is in a pocket, so I can envision that happening without you being aware of it.

Not sure what you mean by Quick Settings, but what you described doesn't seem likely. I set it last thing before going to sleep. It's typically got a charging cable plugged into it, I've gotten in bed, I then manually set it, I exit the settings screen with back-arrow or "Close all" or both (I've checked and neither disables the DND function -- it still shows as active in the notifications tray), and I lay the phone face down on the nightstand. Even if I were to then later glance in the phone for something, it would take three steps to disable DND: swipe down for notifications tray, expand the DND function, and tap Dismiss. That's definitely never happened.

Quick Settings toggles are the buttons that you see in the swipedown notification panel. But yeah, the way you describe it, that would be unlikely.

What if you schedule DND for sleeping hours, instead of turning it on manually? See if DND still randomly turns off in that situation.

I can try that, I guess.

It's just so hard to nail down something like this by testing through process of elimination when it's so darned intermittent, as I know you're well aware.

(And I've usually been so exhausted and anxious to get it set -- and visibly seeing the slider to the right and duration I'm selecting has given me "theoretical" confidence that it's properly set.)

Guess I'm going to have to just try scheduling and other than that keep an eye out and hope I have an "ah-ha" moment at some point for what it is.

Thanks again.
