Do not install 5.0 if you use Exchange...

So, lots of experience with Windows & Windows Phone then to make that statement then...

We had a corporate-wide email sent out regarding Lollipop and Exchange being incompatible. We were told not to upgrade until mid-January when it would be patched at the office.

Here was the email from Corporate:

"MobileIron MDM does not currently support the upgrade and corporate email will stop synching with your device. It is strongly recommended to not update your device at this time and also be aware that purchasing a new Android 5.0 device will need to wait until our server upgrade to install MDM.

We expect an update to MobileIron by January to support Android 5.0."

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at, but I did use Windows at home since 1990 all the way to 2004. I've also been dealing with Windows at work, so I don't think I severely lack experience in that field, though I admit I have zero knowledge of Windows 8.

I just hope @slinky, to whom I asked the question, will clarify the statement. :)

I gather that reading 101 was on on your curricilum.

it is not an issue between the GMAIL app and Exchange. I use it everyday with 2 Exchange accounts with no issue. It is your corporate MDM (MobileIron) that is not yet compatible with Lollipop.

The discussion was originally regarding Corporate Email & Exchange. If you had the ability to understand corporate email & mobile integration, you'd know exactly why my post was relevant. ie. That it could be a mobile integration third party causing his issue, not directly Exchange & Gmail, but clearly that was lost on you.

Thank you for your invaluable & rude contribution. Carry on.

Agreed.

And, the secondary point is, why bother with MobileIron at all? I see little that it does which is not already handled by Exchange Server and ActiveSync.

MobileIron, in my corporate environment anyway, sandboxes the corporate stuff. They isolate your corporate contacts from your personal ones, your company email from personal email using MI-specific applications within the container. This also requires a PIN entry to get into the MI space, on top of the one to get into the phone (which is no longer enforced by policy). The theory is that in a BYOD environment, the "work" area can be wiped by just removing the MI container. This introduces other challenges that make life with a MI-protected device unpleasant. My brief experience in setting up a MI device for someone with Android had me avoid a request to be a pilot for the iOS (work-issued iPad) implementation like it was a horrible disease.

Good For Enterprise was used by my previous employer in a similar fashion - and always broke for months after any major Android update.

Nine and, I believe, Touchdown, does all of this directly without requiring yet another layer (such as MobileIron).

So long as corporate IT is running a current version of Exchange Server, these third-party tools are mostly a waste of money, IMO.

I would think Touchdown should fix it, not Google. I have a similar issue with Sunrise, where I can't view or update my Exchange calendar entries through it. OTOH, I can access them just fine from the native Android calendar app. That's probably a compatibility issue. Google has updated their exchange connector, so I wouldn't be surprised if apps that use it need to be updated.

For me, I don't need Sunrise anymore. The updated Android calendar is good enough for me now.

Download Mail Wise from the play store. It is the best email client. It supports exchange, imap, pop3, etc and syncs into the calendar as well. It also has a nice built in security bypass feature.

Thanks for the suggestion. Like I said, however, I'm pretty happy with the built-in Android apps (i.e. Gmail and Calendar) for handling my Exchange needs. :)

I am impressed with mail wise. It's a very clean interface.

While I'm stuck on KitKat I will use this!

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and time passed now, however I couln`t find a way to make my phone and exchange working well.
I have upgraded to Lollipop and after few days my exchange lost connectivity and stopped syncing over WIFI.
I just found out that under settings, more networks, mobile networks, name of internet access points - reset to default resolves all my issues regarding WIFI , sync and exchange.

Hi folks,

I upgrade to Official lollipop 5.0 and I lost Exchange account connectivity but nine mail client is connect to my Exchange account and sync to my mails. Why nine connect and sync my company Exchange mail account but original email application of Android 5.0 not connect and sync to my Exchange account with same settings?

regadards.

I had this issue, but turns out my Exchange services app background data was restricted (Settings > Data usage > Restrict app background data)

If you can connect via wifi, but not cellular data, this might be the issue.

Gmail app crashes with my Exchange 2003 server so I use Nine for that account. Previously on KitKat my email stuck in the outbox, may be time to replace Exchange 2003.

Posted via the Android Central App

Installed 5.1 and decided to try Gmail for my Exchange 2003 account and it is working properly now.

I have the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S5. After upgrading with Android 5.0, my Exchange server settings for work is stop working and nothing could fixed it. I have been doing lots of research online and even call my phone provider Sprint, but nothing works. For now, I use internet access to enter my Exchange Server address. (eg... email.lawa.org ) for an example. It works. Try it and let the others know.

I have a hosted Exchange account that I have been using for years. Worked fine on 4.4.4 on my S5. When I upgraded to 5.0 there is a constant handshake when using "PUSH" email. If you chooses any time interval other than "push" it works fine. Had no issues getting it set up and working other than the push issue.
Stock S5 using stock apps.

I've switched to Nine which for now has fixed things. But this is a Lollipop issue given it obviously doens't play nice with even the stock email app (which worked perfectly before on my work's Exchange servers). We use iPhone's, blackberries, Samsungs, you name it, all seem to work fine with their stock email programs as 4.4.4 did. The only change was upgrading to 5.0, and it broke (and clearly not just for me). Touchdown stopped working as well.

Here's an interesting link where some are surmising that there are certain TLS settings within Exchange Servers that would have to be adjusted due to how Lollipop was implemented.

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79389

In any event, as mentioned above Nine is working (and you'll see when you download it that they patched it to "fix the SSL issue with Lollipop") ... maybe Google can do the same with their stock email app? :-\

I've used Touchdown for the past 4-5 years and it did what I needed. However, since using it on my Nexus 6, it would randomly sync, and, at times, not allow me to send a message, or receive a message, until it was finished syncing. This was annoying but was also leading to excess data usage.

I am on a 2 GB plan with Sprint and Touchdown would routinely use 700-800 MB in one month. Most of my email is just plain with little or no graphics.

Yesterday, at the start of my new cycle, it used 68 MB.

I decided to look for alternatives and Nine was highly recommended. It was easy to setup, since I already had the settings from Touchdown.

Bottom line, it plays much better with Lollipop and looks better too. I never had any overages from using Touchdown, but Nine has the potential to save me 500-600 MB of data usage. That's huge when you're on a 2 GB plan.

I was planning to wait till the end of my trial, but I had a Google Play credit from a Chromecast purchase just sitting on my account. Very easy decision.

Guys, I think I found a solution to the wifi exchange problem. Long story short...

Go to: Settings/More Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names/"whatever is first on the list"
You should see something like this:

Copy the Proxy address circled with red color.

Now go to: Settings/Wi-Fi and push and hold your wifi network name untill a menu opens. Click "Modify network config" and you should see something like this:

Chose "Show advanced options" and set Proxy to "Proxy Auto-Config" (by default it is set to "None").
Paste the proxy address you copied before into field called "PAC URL".

Thats it...
Your exchange should start working instantly.

Well I accepted the AT&T push of Lollipop 5.0 to my Galaxy S4 and yup, Exchange calendar appointments don't sync anymore. Email sync okay, just not the calendar items from Outlook. Have looked through this thread but haven't seen any solutions. Anybody figured out how to fix this issue?
