Do people still recommend this device?

I'll admit I'm no iFan, but what can you customize on a jailbroken iPhone that you can't on an Android phone (especially a rooted Android phone)?

Just small nuances, like Flex allows you to tweak certain actions and code of certain apps. Like you could edit your powerups in games so you could have unlimited whatever, trick other apps into thinking you have their subscription services to gain the premium **** on some apps. Stuff like that.

Not even close to what you can do with a rooted android phone...and I only do legal things!

I was underwhelmed with the M9. I've had it since April, and it's been laggy, stuttering when opening apps or switching apps, almost as bad as a Samsung device. Battery life is easily the worst in any phone that I've had since the Nexus 4, especially standby time. I replaced it with a Sony Xperia Z3+, which is the total opposite. Very fast and smooth, no lag anywhere, and the standby battery life is so much better. I can leave it off the charger overnight and it might drop 1-2%, total.
Also, most of the pictures I took with the M9 were just terrible. No matter how hard I tried, they look grainy and blurry

I'm having the opposite experience. Pictures look great and battery life is pretty solid. Apps own fast and overall performance has been impressive. I thought I wouldn't notice a big difference from my m8 but it's just generally faster at everything.

I would highly recommend this phone. I have the gunmetal gray and don't find it slippery at all. The coating on the back helps a lot.

Considering I found this for 250 on eBay I am a very happy camper.

I have not had that experience at all. My HTC One M9 is very fast. As a small example, it's the only phone across 4 different phones I've tried that I've ever been able to play Flappy Bird with no lag (yes I play Flappy Bird). I experience no lags at all opening or running any apps. Battery life seems comparable to the Galaxy S6 Edge that I had for 6 weeks previous to the M9, but of course I didn't do any benchmark tests between the two. The day time pictures are great, but yes I'll concede that the night time shots are very challenged.

I've got an M8 that had a USB port go bad on me. It was replaced under warranty roulette, but the used one they replaced with developed the same issue, only quicker but out of warranty at that point. I'm thinking of cutting my losses and upgrading, and leaning towards the M9. Has anyone heard of problems with the USB ports on this one? I hate micro USB charging with a passion because the cables are so fragile/finicky. The last thing I want is a phone that can't hold up to regular charging use too.

Im guessing you use your device a lot when its charging. Thats the only time i see additional pressure being added to the port.
Most people ive talk to who have had issues tend to use their phones while driving and those coil cords put a lot of stress on the ports.

I'm probably considered a moderate/heavy user, but I do try to take extra care for charging. When charging, I try to limit phone use, don't use coiled chords (those still exist?) and have a unique setup for driving. My vehicle mount has a sliding bottom support post. So I orient the phone in landscape and slide the post up so it helps prop up the USB plug. It's also low to a flat part of my dash so the cable can lay gently across it with no sharp bends, twists, or even gravity tugging on it. When charged, I unplug it.

Other than probably charging more often than the average user, I'm mindful of battery/charging care.

Is a jump from GS3 to this going to open up a 'new world' for me? Considering it hard.

It's a good phone. I like it quite a bit. I've had my M9 since release day back in April. I did however just pick up an S6 and I like it better in almost every way. The camera and screen on the S6 completely blow the M9 out of the water. Lag is basically gone on the S6 and it performs quicker than the M9 with most apps when I tested them side by side both set up the same with Nova Launcher and identical settings. I was just going to try the S6 out for 14 days and return it but now I know I will end up keeping the S6 and selling the M9.

Things I like better about the M9:

1. Bluetooth streaming. The S6 doesn't relay album info to the display in my 2012 Mazda Speed3. The M9 does this fine. I read up on it and it is something to do with how Samsung updated Bluetooth in Lollipop. That is a big suck about the S6.

2. I love the metal premium feel of the M9 but the S6 has a great feel to it as well so this is a very marginal plus for the M9 for me.

Other than that, I really can't think of anything else I like better about the M9. I do like Sense a bit more than TouchWiz but Sense lacks some of the cool features that TouchWiz offers such as split screen.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents.

What about battery life on your S6?

Battery life is kind of lousy on the S6. Really not much worse than the M9 though. The M9 definitely has better battery life but not by a landslide.

For me, the Only SS phone I could use is the Note 4 for its sheer amount of features and screen size but Ive always struggled with TW and when I bought the S6, I ended up returning it because I just couldnt get away with even the new the UI which I find to be a little cartoony, but what are the features that you like about it, apart from split screen.. Im just curious :).

What about the speakers?

I did notice that I'm missing the front facing speakers a bit. I generally listen to media is via Bluetooth through my car or via headphones so it's not much of a bother. Honestly, the M9 is not really louder than the S6. However, the sound quakity is much better from the M9.
