Do you have Google Maps true offline maps on your G4 yet?

I read somewhere that Google is rolling out the new feature, so I guess my G4 just hasn't received it yet. Although I'm kind of curious as why why there can be a difference when the Google Maps have identical version numbers.

My VZW Galaxy Note 5 and VZW LG G4 have identical Google Maps version: 9.17.1 (#917101224)

However, the Note 5 was able to start using true offline maps/navigation/search while in airplane mode since yesterday.(provided that I downloaded the offline for the city first)

My G4 is stuck on the old offline map.(possible to view the maps, but no search or navigation) Did anybody else with a G4 get the new offline feature?

Thanks!

I'm on the same maps version as you on my Sprint G4 and don't have the new offline search and navigation features.

I think the question was posted because the OP has the same version of Maps on 2 different devices and the G4 doesn't have the new feature whereas the Note does. It's certainly odd given the same app version.

Exactly... that's why I'm really confused. :(

Wait a minute... I'm even more confused now. I have three identical Verizon Galaxy Note 5 phones. I just checked all three. The Google Maps app on all three show identical verison number(9.17.1 (#917101224). However only one can do true offline search/navigation. I have tried restarting the other two to see if they would kick in.. nope... nothing. I guess there must be something deeper than just the version numbers? (like a switch somewhere allowing Google to determine which devices get the new features?) :(

Server side activation based on Google account is certainly possible.

Something else may still need to be pushed to your device to work.Have you gone through the settings to see if you can download a particular area for offline use?

on the Note 5 that has the new offline search, it looks different than the old save to offline feature. it also shows me how much storage is needed to save the map, as well as the available storage on my phone. the largest area I'm allowed to select is 1500MB. (!) Once downloaded, I can turn off wifi/data and start searching for everything, which is awesome. :)

on the G4 and the two Note 5 that don't have the new feature, I can still save the map for offline, but it's just the old one... the only thing it can do is let me view the map. No searching and obviously no navigation.

Took a screenshot to show the difference:

(the Note 5 that didn't get the new offline feature activated also looks like the one on the G4)
